Position Overview:

A fine-casual restaurant in Saudi Arabia is looking to appoint a talented Sous Chef to help lead kitchen operations. The selected candidate will play a key leadership role in the kitchen, working alongside the Executive Chef to oversee daily operations, guide kitchen staff, and uphold the brands culinary standards. This role is ideal for chefs who are passionate about delivering consistent quality, mentoring others, and contributing creatively to a progressive and vibrant kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities of a Sous Chef:

Kitchen Leadership & Daily Operations

  • Ensure smooth daily kitchen operations in close coordination with the Executive Chef.
  • Maintain consistent food quality, ensuring all dishes are executed according to established standards.
  • Supervise mise en place, prep timelines, and kitchen flow during service.

Menu & Recipe Development

  • Contribute to menu planning, flavor development, and seasonal updates.
  • Assist in creating and refining recipes to balance creativity, cost-efficiency, and kitchen feasibility.
  • Ensure team adherence to recipes and presentation guidelines.

Team Management & Training

  • Lead by example and support the training, mentoring, and performance of junior kitchen staff.
  • Foster a professional, organized, and collaborative work culture.
  • Support in recruiting and onboarding new kitchen team members.

Quality Control & Presentation

  • Conduct regular taste and presentation checks to ensure consistency.
  • Guide team members in upholding the restaurants plating standards and aesthetic.
  • Support problem-solving during service and ensure dishes meet guest expectations.

Cost Control & Inventory Management

  • Assist in managing food and labor costs within budget targets.
  • Help monitor stock levels, reduce waste, and liaise with suppliers and procurement teams.
  • Participate in cost-effective strategies without compromising on quality.

Guest Experience & Front-of-House Collaboration

  • Work closely with FOH leadership to ensure timing, service flow, and guest satisfaction.
  • When appropriate, engage with guests to discuss dishes or receive feedback.
  • Contribute to seamless communication between the kitchen and dining floor teams.

Market Relevance & Culinary Trends

  • Stay informed on dining trends within the Saudi market and the broader regional culinary landscape
  • Help adapt the menu to local preferences while retaining international appeal

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Sous Chef or solid background as a Senior Chef de Partie in a high-standard culinary environment
  • Experience in upscale casual, fine-casual, or luxury hospitality preferred
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional certification
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Comfortable leading kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English; Arabic proficiency is an asset
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards in Saudi Arabia
