Horticulture Director

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Horticultural Director to lead our horticultural efforts. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to support the cultivation, propagation, and management of plant collections, as well as managing and overseeing a team of horticultural professionals, including gardeners, arborists, and propagators.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement horticultural strategies to support the cultivation, propagation, and management of plant collections
• Manage and oversee a team of horticultural professionals, including gardeners, arborists, and propagators
• Develop and manage the horticultural budget, including capital expenditures and operating expenses
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure that horticultural activities are meeting the needs of the organization
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards
• Develop and implement sustainability initiatives to reduce our environmental impact
• Oversee the design and maintenance of horticultural displays, including outdoor gardens and indoor plant collections
• Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including plant suppliers and nurseries
• Conduct horticultural research and develop new plant collections

Requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in horticulture, including experience in a leadership role
• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, plant science, botany, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
• Strong understanding of horticulture best practices and standards
• Experience in project management, budgeting, and vendor management
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire stakeholders
• Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a team
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and initiatives preferred
