Residential and care contractor are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator to join the team, so if you would like to be a part of something new and exciting, we would like to hear from you!

What will I be doing in this role? As an Estimator you will be responsible for supporting the bid function to create tailored cost proposals in response to tenders and land package deals. You'll be responsible for providing quotations for projects across the affordable housing, residential care and speculative sales sectors, both in new build and refurbishment/repurposing projects.

In a typical day, you could expect to be:

  • Creating and submitting tender proposals based on drawings, specifications, and industry knowledge.
  • Working with our supply chain to obtain and review competitive quotations for our cost proposals.
  • Conducting site visits with clients and our operational teams to inform your costing exercise.
  • Forming bespoke caveats and exclusions for each tender submission to ensure clarity for our clients and protection for our business.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a wide-ranging knowledge of the residential construction sector, having proven previous experience in this sector.
  • Prepare bills of quantities / schedule of rates for tender applications, ensuring it is formatted correctly and compliant with tender requirements.
  • Be experienced in pricing work from first principles as well as utilising supply chain information.
  • Able to source and review subcontract tender submissions for compliance and inclusion into the estimate.
  • Provide internal take offs and measurements where required.
  • Prepare and submit tender queries / clarifications.
  • Attendance at opportunity launch, mid-tender, settlement and handover meetings.
  • Attend off-site meetings/ surveys with Customer as required.
  • Arrange key supply chain tender review meetings.
  • Ensure the preparation and submission of tender cost documentation is timely, compliant and accurate.
  • Gain a deep understanding of potential clients needs, tender requirements, and business operations, by reading and digesting client specifications.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with Sub-contractors and supply chain.
  • Supporting the bid lead in assessing the risk levels associated with each bid and forming bespoke caveats and exclusions to protect our company.
  • Completing all commercial amendments, discussions and negotiations arising from the submission of a tender through value engineering reviews if required, right up to contract award.
  • Ensure the bid filing system is followed, ensuring archiving is completed and that all communications are saved in a user-friendly manner to enable easy navigation and interrogation of information.
  • Working with Directors as required to gain cost approvals prior to bid submission.
  • Undertake appraisals for land led development sites based on information provided.
  • Any other reasonable duties, as required.

RoleRequirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of industry exposure, in an estimating role.
  • Experience of Estimating packages (Conquest, Bluebeam or similar)
  • A high level of verbal, written and numerical skills.
  • IT literate and advanced user of Microsoft Office; including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability to understand P&L principles such as gross and net margins, mark ups and multipliers.
  • Familiarity with financial and project management principles.

· As this role requires travel to sites along the Midlands, we do need you to hold a full Driving Licence

Role Particulars

  • £45,000 £55,000 Basic salary
  • Company contribution pension scheme
  • Full Time Position, Monday to Friday

Preferred Qualifications, Memberships etc

  • Ideally an industry recognised qualification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE).
  • A BTEC in Building Studies, Building Engineering or Building Management or a HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management or equivalent.
