About the job Head/ Director of Strategic Philanthropy
Role Overview:
The Head of Grants will spearhead this initiatives strategic and operational growth, managing funder relationships, guiding program direction, and ensuring systems and processes are effectively established to maximise the Funds impact.
The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of both Indian and global development sectors, have a respect for indigenous communities and grassroots movements, and demonstrate a proven track record in foundation management.
The Head will also play a vital role in cultivating the next generation of leaders to sustain and further the vision and strategy of the Impact Fund and its mission.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and guide the overall strategic direction and daily operations of the grant/funds, ensuring alignment with the mission and vision.
- Lead and manage long-term relationships with funders, from initial onboarding to active engagement, reinforcing strong connections.
- Serve as the Funds representative in engaging with donors, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Manage negotiations with funding agencies and experienced funders, handling complex relationships effectively.
- Shape and evolve program strategies, focusing on key areas such as resilience, community empowerment, participatory grant-making, and scalability.
- Oversee the portfolio strategy to ensure a balanced, impactful, and sustainable approach to growth.
- Establish and execute a narrative strategy to position the Fund as a key voice in community-led development and resilience.
- Ensure effective management of multiple large grants and stakeholder relationships, optimising partnerships for sustained impact.
- Develop and manage frameworks for program oversight, evaluation, and ongoing improvement.
- Take an active role in identifying and mentoring future leaders within the team, ensuring they are equipped to step into leadership roles within the Impact Fund.
- Represent us at conferences, industry events, and roundtable discussions, advocating for the Funds mission and goals.
- Contribute insights to the field by publishing articles, case studies, and showcasing the Funds work and impact.
- Engage with media, academic platforms, and advocacy groups to expand the Funds visibility and amplify its mission.
Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will bring over a 20+ years of experience in foundation management, social impact, or program leadership, including a minimum of five years in a senior management role.
Demonstrated expertise in leading large-scale initiatives, managing complex stakeholder relationships, and driving systemic change is essential. The Head must have strong skills in strategy development, program management, and operational systems building, alongside an in-depth understanding of the Indian and global development landscape.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and partnership skills are required, as well as the ability to nurture and develop emerging leaders to ensure a strong succession pipeline.
