Job Description:

As a Printer onboard a cruise ship, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining printing equipment to produce a variety of printed materials, including menus, flyers, posters, signage, and other promotional materials. Your role is essential in supporting the ship's marketing and communication efforts, ensuring high-quality printed materials are available for onboard events, activities, and guest services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Printing Operations:

    • Operate printing equipment, such as digital printers, copiers, and offset presses, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
    • Prepare and set up printing jobs, including selecting appropriate paper stock, ink, and other materials.
    • Monitor and adjust printing processes to ensure quality and accuracy in color, alignment, and image reproduction.
    • Maintain inventory of printing supplies, such as paper, ink, toner, and printing plates, and reorder as needed.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve minor printing equipment issues, and escalate major technical problems to the appropriate personnel.
    • Collaborate with colleagues, such as graphic designers and marketing staff, to understand printing requirements and specifications.
  2. Print Material Production:

    • Receive and review printing requests, ensuring all necessary details, artwork, and specifications are provided.
    • Prepare and layout files for printing, including formatting, resizing, and adjusting images as required.
    • Print and finish various materials, such as menus, brochures, banners, promotional materials, and stationery.
    • Perform quality control checks on printed materials, ensuring they meet the desired standards and specifications.
    • Assist with the design and layout of print materials using graphic design software, if applicable.
    • Ensure timely completion of print jobs, meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks as necessary.
  3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of printing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
    • Identify and troubleshoot common printing issues, such as paper jams, color inconsistencies, and print quality problems.
    • Coordinate with onboard technical support or external vendors for major equipment repairs or servicing.
    • Keep abreast of advancements in printing technology and techniques to enhance print quality and efficiency.
  4. Record-Keeping and Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate records of printing jobs, including job details, quantities produced, materials used, and associated costs.
    • Prepare reports and provide updates on printing activities, material consumption, and inventory status.
    • Ensure compliance with onboard policies and procedures related to printing operations and record-keeping.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certification or training in printing technology is a plus.
  • Previous experience in operating and maintaining printing equipment, preferably in a commercial printing environment.
  • Proficiency in using various printing technologies, software, and graphic design tools.
  • Knowledge of different printing techniques, paper types, and finishing processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in print production.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot common printing issues.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and understand printing requirements.
  • Flexibility to work in a multi-cultural and fast-paced cruise ship environment.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and perform routine maintenance tasks.
