Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Assistant Shore Excursion Manager is the one who assists the Shore Excursion Manager in the direction and coordination of activities of the onboard Shore Excursion department in accordance with identified company goals to obtain premium efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits by performing duties personally or through direct reports.
Responsible for the evaluation and training of the Shore Excursion Staff members in tour sales, customer service, tour dispatch and the daily operational needs of the department.
- Manages the daily operation of the shipboard Shore Excursion staff & program.
- Strives to achieve and exceed budgeted figures.
- Must have a clear understanding of revenue and rating goals for the department, develop an evolving plan to achieve /exceed the goals and execute said plan.
- Monitors excursions that are selling out, finds alternatives to be presented to the Excursion Staff to sell.
- Oversees the training and continued education of the Shore Excursion staff members.
- Works with Manager / HR in managing and documenting disciplinary issues.
- Manages and audits the content of the Shore Excursion programing being displayed on the TV channel.
- Audits the Shore Excursion content in the daily onboard newsletter.
- Familiar with all responsibilities of the Shore Excursion Manager and be available to step up if necessary.
- Works alongside the Manager and Tour Operators to streamline the tour dispatch process.
- Meets with Tour Operators in the ports for operational & reconciliation purposes.
- Assist in preparation of the Shore Excursion Order and Description forms.
- Presents Tour Talks onboard and as well as other related presentations.
- Attends VIP and Latitudes events onboard as required by onboard management.
- Manage and schedule the Behind the Scenes Tour and report sales each voyage.
- Inspects new excursions in ports, and monitors tours on a rotating basis in order to constantly review quality control.
- Must actively participate in Pier Welcome Back, Officer and Department Head Visibility and Guest Engagement as required by onboard management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed; the omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SEMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
- Must be able to provide effective Shore Excursion briefings and conduct Q & A sessions with guests and colleagues.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum one year of sales experience in hotels, hospitality, cruise ships, or a related service-oriented industry is required.
- Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in typing and computer software skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Fidelio, AS400, Mac OS) is required.
- Intermediate knowledge of a wide range of itineraries, ports and tours required.
- Basic ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, Italian, German, or French preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge and understanding of numbering flow debits/credits, adjusting entries and corrections is required.
