Position Overview: As a Tailor on a cruise ship, you will be responsible for providing professional tailoring and alteration services to guests and crew members. Your role is essential in ensuring that guests' clothing fits perfectly and meets their satisfaction. You will work closely with the Wardrobe Department and be skilled in various tailoring techniques to meet the diverse needs of passengers and crew. Your attention to detail, craftsmanship, and excellent customer service will contribute to a positive guest experience onboard.
Responsibilities:
- Tailoring and Alterations:
- Provide expert tailoring services to guests and crew members, including alterations, repairs, and fittings.
- Measure and mark garments accurately to achieve proper fit and desired alterations.
- Perform a variety of tailoring techniques, such as hemming, sewing buttons, adjusting waistlines, and resizing garments.
- Work with a variety of fabrics and materials, ensuring proper handling and care.
- Guest and Crew Assistance:
- Greet guests and crew members warmly, listening attentively to their tailoring needs and preferences.
- Offer professional advice and recommendations on garment alterations and improvements.
- Assist in selecting appropriate fabrics, trims, and accessories for custom tailoring projects.
- Collaborate with the Wardrobe Department to meet specific uniform requirements for crew members.
- Wardrobe Maintenance:
- Collaborate with the Wardrobe Department to maintain and repair uniforms, costumes, and other garments onboard.
- Inspect and identify garment damages or wear, providing recommendations for repair or replacement.
- Collaborate with the Wardrobe Department to ensure sufficient stock of uniform items and accessories.
- Assist in organizing and inventorying garments and tailoring supplies.
- Customer Service:
- Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring guest satisfaction throughout the tailoring process.
- Maintain professionalism and a friendly demeanor when dealing with guests and crew members.
- Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and special requests related to tailoring services.
- Communicate effectively with guests and crew members to understand their specific tailoring needs and expectations.
- Equipment and Work Area:
- Operate and maintain tailoring equipment, including sewing machines, irons, and other tools.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Ensure the proper maintenance and care of sewing machines and tools.
- Safety and Security:
- Comply with all safety and security procedures and guidelines.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
- Participate in safety drills and training as required.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Tailor or Seamstress is required.
- Strong tailoring and garment alteration skills.
- Knowledge of a wide range of tailoring techniques and garment construction.
- Attention to detail and ability to achieve precise measurements and alterations.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to work long hours and on various shifts, as required on a cruise ship.
- Familiarity with different types of fabrics and materials.
- Basic sewing machine operation and maintenance skills.
- Knowledge of uniform and costume construction is beneficial.
