Key Responsibilities:
- Laundry Operations: Perform a range of laundry operations, including sorting, washing, drying, folding, and ironing of guests' clothing, crew uniforms, and ship linens, following established procedures and quality standards.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain laundry equipment, such as industrial washing machines, dryers, ironing machines, and folding machines. Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain inventory levels of laundry supplies, including detergents, fabric softeners, and other necessary items. Assist in inventory stocktaking and replenishment.
- Quality Control: Inspect laundered items to ensure cleanliness, proper folding, ironing, and presentation. Address any stains or damages and report them for appropriate action.
- Guest Service: Provide friendly and efficient service to guests regarding laundry-related queries, requests, and concerns. Ensure timely delivery and return of guests' laundry items.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow safety protocols and adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures specific to P&O cruise ships. Comply with laundry-related environmental and waste management policies.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of laundry activities, including daily production reports, laundry requisitions, and guest laundry charges. Assist in generating laundry-related reports as required.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other laundry operatives and department members to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of tasks. Assist in training new laundry staff, if needed.
- Efficiency and Productivity: Optimize work processes to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity in the laundry department. Identify areas for improvement and suggest solutions.
- Cleanliness and Organization: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the laundry area, including workstations, storage areas, and equipment. Adhere to P&O cruise ship's laundry department sanitation and hygiene standards.
Requirements:
- Experience: Previous experience as a Laundry Operative, preferably in a hotel, resort, or cruise ship setting, is beneficial but not mandatory. On-the-job training may be provided.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy laundry bags and standing for extended periods. Stamina to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail to ensure proper sorting, folding, and presentation of laundered items. Ability to identify and address stains, damages, or other issues.
