Job Description:
Position Title: Entertainment Fly Operator
Department: Entertainment / Production
Reports To: Entertainment Production Manager or Stage Manager
Location: Onboard Cruise Ship
Position Summary:
The Entertainment Fly Operator plays a vital role in the safe and smooth execution of live performances by operating and maintaining theatrical fly systemsboth manual and automated. This position ensures all flown scenery, props, and special effects are executed precisely and safely in alignment with production requirements.
Key Responsibilities:

Operate fly systems (counterweight, motorized, or automated) during performances, rehearsals, and technical runs.

Assist in the rigging and de-rigging of scenery, props, and equipment.

Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance on rigging equipment.

Ensure all flown elements are safely secured and correctly balanced.

Collaborate with stage management, lighting, sound, and automation teams to execute show cues flawlessly.

Participate in the setup and teardown of entertainment equipment during load-ins and load-outs.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe backstage environment.

Follow all onboard safety protocols and contribute to emergency response procedures when needed.
Requirements:
Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience in fly system operation within a live entertainment, cruise ship, or theatrical environment.

Experience with rigging and automated show control systems preferred.

Knowledge of rigging safety and working at height procedures.
Skills:

Proficient in the use of both manual and motorized fly systems.

Strong understanding of stage directions and cue timing.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physically fit with the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in elevated or confined spaces.

Calm under pressure and adaptable to last-minute changes.
Education/Certifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Training or certification in theatrical rigging, automation, or technical theatre preferred.

Valid STCW and ENG1 medical certificate (or ability to obtain prior to embarkation).
