Safety Engineer

 Job Description:

Summary

Reports to the Safety Manager and is part of our Safety team. The focus of this technical support position is to lead the incident investigation work process as the site focal point and to support personal and process safety evaluations to ensure the safety of our employees, our environment, and our community. Leverage safety data and metrics to drive the site toward the elimination of process and personal safety impacts and incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting compliance with Federal, State, and County Health and Safety and Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations.
  • Interpret regulations and programs and help develop fit for purpose solutions to meet requirements.
  • Audit the effectiveness of the site investigation work process.
  • Elimination of repeat failures by utilizing root cause analysis and risk analysis.
  • Facilitating Process and Personal Safety Incident Management System at the site.
  • Lead and support incident investigations by becoming certified in ABS Causal Analysis and Triangle of Prevention (TOP).
  • Collaborate with others in similar roles across the organization to understand effective practices and conduct health checks.
  • Assist the Industrial Hygienist (IH) to resolve health issues by identifying risks, and by implementing policies and programs to mitigate these.
  • Working with a broad range of internal customers in support of Incident Investigation and Preventive and Corrective Actions as they relate to incidents across the site.
  • Interpret and provide insights on safety data and metrics.
  • Influence change and promote safety programs.
  • Effective communication and influencing of site leadership to address safety weaknesses.
  • Provide consultation to the line organization and mentoring to staff on incident investigation work process.
  • Present findings to Leaders at the site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, or other applicable technical degree.
  • Prior experience in industrial settings is preferred, specifically in chemical plants, refineries, or other complex continuous process industries.
  • Strong engineering skills, with exposure to multiple disciplines to help challenge ideas and designs.
  • Understanding of safety programs.
  • Industrial Hygienist (IH) experience preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Candidate must have an active TWIC card or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
