About the Role
Build and maintain a profitable, diversified GCC energy portfolio through disciplined participation on major placements, while establishing the underwriting, business development and governance capabilities required for sustainable expansion.
Responsibilities
Energy Portfolio & Strategy
- Own the energy business plan, appetite, target-account map and portfolio growth roadmap.
- Build and maintain a profitable, diversified GCC energy portfolio through disciplined participation on major placements.
- Manage aggregate exposure by country, asset, operator, peril, leader, broker, cedant and reinsurance counterparty.
Technical Underwriting
- Underwrite upstream, midstream, downstream and energy-construction risks within approved appetite.
- Independently assess occupancy, process hazards, loss scenarios, MPL/EML, BI values, deductibles, wordings, claims history and line size.
- Maintain an approved slip-leader framework and document any deviation from leader terms.
Risk Engineering & Governance
- Coordinate risk-engineering reviews and translate recommendations into terms, warranties or declined participation.
- Ensure admitted placement, sanctions, licensing, premium-tax, wording and local-policy requirements are validated country by country.
- Document any deviation from leader terms.
Market Development
- Develop brokers, cedants, energy extraction and production companies, energy contractors and reinsurance partners across the GCC as the primary market target, and selectively beyond.
- Promote existing products to new opportunities.
- Leverage existing networks and relationships to promote the energy offering.
Claims & Reinsurance
- Partner with Claims on large losses.
- Ensure rights under cooperation/control clauses are preserved.
- Partner with Reinsurance on treaty structure, terms and profitability upon renewal.
Collaborative Relationships
- Work closely with the Chief Commercial P&C Officer, Country GMs, Country P&C Heads, Claims leadership and Reinsurance leadership.
- Work with line underwriters, Country GMs, Country P&C Heads, Claims leadership and Reinsurance leadership.
- Maintain relationships with Risk Management, Finance / Performance Management, Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Data Governance and regulators, as required through country management.
Education & Qualifications
- CII / FCII / CPCU or engineering qualification.
Other Requirements
Experience
- Substantial specialist energy underwriting experience.
- GCC or GCC-facing portfolio exposure with demonstrable authority.
- Experience across insurer / reinsurer / Lloyd's settings, major-broker relationships and first-hand portfolio building experience.
Technical / Analytical Capabilities
- Underwriting expertise and portfolio analytics.
- Facultative and treaty understanding.
- Claims and engineering literacy.
Leadership & Behaviours

- Credible communication, conflict management, data orientation and regulatory awareness.
- Proven capability to lead projects, work autonomously, manage priorities and deliver outcomes in a complex, matrixed environment.
