Our client is the worlds leading producer of an element/mineral resource that primarily improves the strength of steel and has many different applications. The nature of their business involves the extraction, processing, manufacturing and marketing of this chemical element, developing and providing technology for each application and final product. The task is to add value to the supply chain where the element is used. This element is widely used in structures for buildings, bridges and façades, structures of automotive bodies and also in superconducting magnets of MRI scanners and hot parts of aeronautic engines, to name but a few examples. They work closely with a variety of industries involved in steel production, welding, nuclear, and electronics, and dedicate their special attention to their customers, wherever they may be globally.

Due to expansion within China, they are seeking an Independent Consultant to perform the role of Technical Market Development focusing on the Steel Plate producers within China. The mission of the role is to help promote the furtherance of the consumption of their product by providing technical support to enlarge the usage of micro alloying in steel plate products. The role will involve routine trips to visit steel mills that produce Plate and Flat product steels. It will have high levels of interaction with workers / engineers from production shops of steels to implement trials using micro alloying technology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CONSULTANT - TECHNICAL MARKET DEVELOPMENT, STEEL PLATE - CHINA

Purpose:

• Technical support to enlarge the usage of niobium (Nb) microalloying in Steel Plate.
• This professional will have a routine of trips to visit steel mills that produce Steel Plate and Flat Product steel.
• Preparation and presentation of technical reports about niobium to customers and at industry events.
• Preparation of scope for new projects
• Follow up on action plans and trials
• Running simulations with MicroSim and other company tools
• Interaction with workers / engineers from production shops of steels to implement trials using Nb micro alloying technology.
• Prospect opportunities for Nb use/application in Chinese market.
• Technical translation and interpretation for non-Mandarin speaking colleagues.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years experience working in steel mills with good knowledge in steel plate production processes (melting shop, hot rolling, heat treatments).
• Good knowledge on steel characterization: Metallography and microstructure analysis via optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, good interpretation of steel mechanical tests results.
• Experience for interaction with steel production shops (rolling mill).

Qualifications:

• Engineering with any of those backgrounds: Materials, Metallurgy, Production, Mechanical.
• PhD or Masters degree in Materials Science or Metallurgy.

• Fluency in English;
• Ability to develop working relationships with people from different backgrounds (customers, salespeople, production shop operators, industry leaders).
