Description:
Types of Patient Served
The Endoscopy Unit has seven Procedure Rooms for the purpose of diagnostic evaluation and interventional procedures of patients with upper and lower gastrointestinal disease. In addition a travel cart is available to perform procedures for patients acutely ill and unable to be moved, and for off hour emergent procedures. Special procedures such as Bronchoscopy, Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography with SpyGlass, and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Single Balloon Enteroscopy, High Resolution Impedance Manometry, and HALO Radiofrequency Ablation Therapy for treatment of Barrett’s Esophagus are also performed. There are 20 pre and post procedure bays for admission and discharge for outpatients having GI or invasive procedures performed.


Ages of Patients Served:
The Endoscopy Unit provides gastrointestinal and pulmonary endoscopic procedures/services to adult and geriatric patients
.
Hours of Operation:
The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 07:30 – 1600. Staff is on call for emergent procedures during off hours, holidays and weekends, 24 hours/day, 7 days a week.

Qualifications of Staff:
Administrative management in collaboration with all employees working in the Endoscopy Unit meet the requirements enforced by New York State Education Departments specific to their profession. Other unlicensed, assistive personnel work under the direct supervision of the Licensed Professional Nurse. The following qualifications must be met for each skill level:
• Operations Manager
1. Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing
2. NYS Nursing License
3. BSN required, Masters Degree preferred
4. Minimum 5 years management/leadership experience
5. BLS, ACLS preferred
6. Certification
• Registered Nurse
1. Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred)
2. NYS Nursing License
3. Level I Cardiac Education
4. ACLS for Moderate Sedation
• Endoscopy Technicians
1. High School Diploma or General Education Diploma. Two years’ experience in endoscopy or 6 college credits plus one year experience in the medical field.
2. Nurse Assistant experience preferred
3. Senior Endoscopy Technician – in addition to above - needs a minimum of 9 additional credits post high school or a graduate of LPN program OR high school diploma and 2 to 5 years Endoscopy Technician on the job training experience.

• Scheduling Secretary
1. High School Diploma; Associates Degree of Applied Science preferred
2. Two years experience in health-related field

1. High School Diploma or General Education Diploma
2. Good communication and interpersonal skills
