Role and Responsibilities: As the Lead HVAC Mechanic, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective execution of mechanical projects. Your leadership and technical expertise will be essential in guiding your team to deliver projects on time, while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. Key responsibilities include:
- Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of mechanics and technicians, providing guidance, mentorship, and direction throughout projects.
- Project Execution: Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical projects, including HVAC installations, plumbing systems, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Technical Expertise: Utilize your in-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, industry codes, and best practices to ensure the successful completion of projects to the highest standards.
- Scheduling and Resource Allocation: Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and allocate resources effectively to optimize project progress. Collaborate closely with project managers to meet project timelines.
- Quality Control: Enforce strict adherence to industry codes, regulations, and company quality standards, maintaining exceptional workmanship in all mechanical installations and repairs.
- Safety Oversight: Promote and enforce a safety-first culture, conducting regular safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and practices.
- Material and Equipment Management: Coordinate the procurement, tracking, and efficient utilization of materials, tools, and equipment required for projects, minimizing waste and optimizing inventory.
- Problem Solving: Identify and address technical challenges and obstacles during projects, implementing effective solutions to maintain project momentum.
- Client Interaction: Maintain clear and open communication with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders, providing updates on project status and addressing concerns.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate project records, including reports, time sheets, material usage, and other relevant documentation.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and operational efficiencies, sharing insights and recommendations with the management team.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional trade certification or vocational training in mechanical systems preferred.
- An active Virginia DPOR issued Journeyman License preferred.
- 5+ years proven experience as a lead mechanic or in a similar leadership role within the mechanical contracting industry.
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, and/or sheet metal systems and installations.
- Comprehensive understanding of industry codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in using mechanical tools and equipment.
- Ability to pass drug screenings.
- Ability to pass background checks, obtain security clearances and work on jobsites where minor children are present.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must have own tools of the trade.

- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
- Flexibility to work in various environments and adapt to changing project requirements and/or extended work hours (nights, weekends) when necessary.
