Painting and Coating Engineer

 Job Description:

Education: University Graduate with on Technical Major

Working Experiences: More than 10-15 years in a similar position or similar field

REQUIRED WORKING SKILLS/QUALIFICATION/CERTIFICATION

  1. Project production plan. Knowledge and understanding of fabrication sequences for different products (fixed facilities, subsea, etc.) and their disciplines. Knowledge of resource planning and production activity duration. Ability to estimate the productive resource for a defined task. Ability to report performance indicators, identify criticalities, and propose corrective actions
  2. Engineering design activities. Knowledge of Discipline engineering design criteria, methods, and workflows from the conceptual phase up to the site engineering phase. Capability to define the technical documents set based on Project quantities and scope of work. Capability to perform and coordinate Project engineering documents production activities and to check and review design documents, prepared either internally or by Vendors.
  3. Engineering standard codes and regulations. Knowledge of main international Discipline standards, codes, and regulations. Capability to analyze dedicated Project requirements in terms of local standards and codes and to identify proper implementation actions. When required by the role, the ability to manage the resolution of Engineering Non-Conformity (NCR) at the site supporting Construction and/or Fabrication activities effectively interfacing project Team, Client, and Vendor.
  4. Quantity estimation for engineering disciplines. Capability to define the Project's general rules and guidelines for Discipline quantities estimation either on Bid Projects or on Projects in execution, according to Corporate design standards, procedures, methods, and tools. Capability to control and ensure the correct application of the general rules and guidelines by all team members and all subcontractors involved in quantity definition activities
  5. Engineering project document management. Capability to analyze engineering documents (e.g. Instruction to Tender, Client and subcontractor documents, etc.) identifying improvement areas in terms of cost/time optimization
  6. Engineering reporting techniques. Capability to monitor and control the engineering progress and schedule. Contribute to Project reporting for the relevant engineering part
  7. Engineering Subcontractor management and control. Capability to handle subcontracted engineering work packages defining the scope of work, the milestones, and documentation deliverables. Capability to control the quality, the costs, and the timing of the subcontracted activities ensuring compliance with project scheduling and goals and with contract requirements.
  8. Engineering technical software tools. User-level knowledge of Corporate and Operating Center Discipline technical design software tools. User-level knowledge of Corporate and Operating Center IT tools supporting business processes such as electronic document system management, procurement, and office automation applications.
  9. Engineering equipment testing. Capability to define technical requirements for Discipline equipment and materials workshop testing according to Corporate standards, procedures, methods, and tools
  10. Engineering Material Testing. Capability to define technical requirements for Discipline equipment and materials workshop testing according to Corporate standards, procedures, methods, and tools
  11. Cathodic protection. Knowledge of the cathodic protection systems, materials, and equipment in the oil & gas industry and pertinent to Client's scope of work. Ability to select the proper cathodic protection system, its elements and materials, and equipment according to the received input data. Knowledge of the anode materials and anode fabrication process. Ability to conduct inspections and tests related to the cathodic protection and knowledge of the limits of the cathodic protection systems and equipment. Ability to prepare technical documents pertinent to cathodic protection. Ability to work on sites: supervision of the works related to the cathodic protection, supervision of the fabrication of anodes, monitoring of the cathodic protection system, performance of the potential survey, and resistivity survey onshore and offshore.
  12. Coating engineering. Knowledge of coating, painting, and field joint coating systems for various elements in the O&G industry pertinent to the client's scope of work. Knowledge of the coating materials, coating application processes, technology, equipment, and facilities applicable to the client projects. Ability to select the proper coating system, technology, process, and equipment according to the received input data. Knowledge of inspections, tests, and the limits of the coating systems and their application equipment. Ability to prepare various technical documents pertinent to the coating works (schedules, budget, technical and economical offer, specifications, procedures, inspection and test plans, etc.).
  13. Corrosion and protection. Knowledge of the principles of corrosion and corrosion control methodologies. Knowledge of the potential corrosion damage mechanisms affecting the materials used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors when exposed to both the process (i.e. internal) and service (i.e. external) environments, including transient operations, e.g. installation, pre-commissioning, start-up and shut-down. Knowledge of the main Industry models and software for corrosion assessment in both sour and sweet services, their applicability and limitations, and ability to perform corrosion rate calculations and corrosion assessment evaluations. Knowledge of the main metallic (and non-metallic) materials, their chemical, physical, and mechanical properties, their corrosion resistance properties in the various process and service environments, and their interaction with each other. Knowledge of the main corrosion control methodologies, such as materials selection, process control, metallurgical controls, chemical treatment, coatings/paintings/linings, cathodic protection (both sacrificial anodes and ICCP), cleaning/preservation strategies, their applicability, and limitations. Knowledge of the main applicable Industry materials selection and corrosion control international standards and codes (such as NACE, API, ISO, NORSOK, DNVGL, etc.) and ability to analyze Clients standards.
  14. Field Joint Coating Engineering. Knowledge of the field joint coating materials, systems (e.g. HSS, FBE, IMPP, IMPU, etc.), application processes, technology, and field joint coating equipment required by client projects. Ability to select the proper field joint coating system and field joint coating equipment according to the received input data. Knowledge of the inspections and tests relevant to field joint coating and the limits of field joint coating systems and their equipment. Ability to prepare the various technical documents relevant to field joint coating (schedules, budget, technical and economical offer, specifications, procedures, inspection and test plans, etc.).
  15. Material engineering. Knowledge of the principles of metallurgy and materials science. Knowledge of the main metallic (and non-metallic) materials used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors, their chemical, physical, and mechanical properties, their applicability, limitations and costs, and other relevant features e.g. market availability, shop and field fabrication, joining methods, etc. Knowledge of manufacturing processes of products used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors in different materials, such as steel making, hot and cold forming (e.g. rolling, forging, drawing, extrusion, casting, etc.), heat treatment, welding and finishing operations and their influence on final mechanical and corrosion resistance properties. Ability to draft Product Specifications for components used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors, such as line pipes, hot induction bends, flanges and fittings, forgings, etc., and knowledge of impacts of product properties on client processes and technologies. Knowledge of materials suppliers in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors, their capabilities, and limitations. Ability to review suppliers' offers, perform technical alignments and evaluations, and participate in technical meetings. Knowledge of materials destructive and non-destructive test methods used during product manufacturing, their applicability, and limitations. Knowledge of the main applicable Industry materials International standards and codes (such as ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, DNVGL, etc.) and ability to analyze Clients' Specifications and standards.
  16. Painting engineering. Knowledge of the painting materials, painting systems, application processes, technology, and painting equipment required by client projects. Knowledge of the structures that have to be painted and the ability to select the proper painting system according to the received input data. Knowledge of the inspections, tests, and limits of the painting systems and painting equipment. Ability to prepare the technical documents pertinent to painting works.
  17. HSE Work Practices. Knowledge of the main risks during the operation activities and safe working and environmental protection procedures/practices & rules to be applied. Knowledge of adequate Personal Protective Equipment - purpose, use, and maintenance Knowledge and the correct use of the Permit to Work system.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTIONS

  1. Research and develop coating, painting, and field joint coating materials and systems
  2. Research and develop FJC equipment
  3. Witness the field joint coating-related trials
  4. Prepare the technical specification related to the development of the field joint coating equipment and consumables
  5. Perform review and technical evaluation of offers from the field joint coating equipment manufacturer
  6. Perform/supervise the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
  7. Prepare the budget related to the field joint coating research and development operations
  8. Optimize the existing field joint coating equipment
  9. Provide technical assistance to the R&D department for the field joint coating equipment and materials
  10. Perform the feasibility studies for the suitability of the coating, painting, and field joint coating systems and equipment
  11. Review the received documents and elaborate on the input data related to the coating, painting, and field joint coating works
  12. Select the suitable coating, painting, and field joint coating materials and systems
  13. Prepare the technical qualifications related to the coating, painting, and field joint coating
  14. Prepare the specifications and technical requisitions related to the coating, painting, and field joint coating materials and services
  15. Estimate the field joint coating cycle time (assisted by the Field Joint Coating Technology Engineer)
  16. Estimate the required man-hours related to the coating, painting, and field joint coating engineering works in case of the project award
  17. Perform the technical evaluation of the offers received from Vendors related to the supply of the coating, painting, and field joint coating materials and services (if any)
  18. Interface with the Asset Department for determination of the layout of the FJC stations onboard the pipe laying vessel and for the availability of the field joint coating equipment
  19. Evaluate the equipment necessary to perform the job and feasibility study of the field joint coating operation on board pipe laying vessel including equipment that shall be developed fit for the purpose
  20. Prepare the FJC method statement when the FJC operations shall be carried out directly by the Client.
  21. Prepare the technical offer for the field joint coating operations done by the Client.
  22. Prepare the budget related to the field joint coating operations done by the client.
