Job Description:
REQUIRED WORKING SKILLS/QUALIFICATION/CERTIFICATION
- University Graduate with on Technical Major
- Experiences in more than 10 years in similar position or similar field
- Engineering design activities. Knowledge of Discipline engineering design criteria, methods, and workflows from the conceptual phase up to the site engineering phase. Capability to define the technical documents set based on Project quantities and scope of work. Capability to perform and coordinate Project engineering documents production activities and to check and review design documents, prepared either internally or by Vendors.
- Engineering standard codes and regulations. Capability to analyze dedicated Project requirements in terms of local standards and codes and to identify proper implementation actions. When required by the role, the ability to manage the resolution of Engineering Non-Conformity (NCR) at the site supporting Construction and/or Fabrication activities effectively interfacing with the Project Team, Client, and Vendor.
- Quantity estimation for engineering disciplines. Capability to define the Project's general rules and guidelines for Discipline quantities estimation either on Bid Projects or on Projects in execution, according to Corporate design standards, procedures, methods, and tools. Capability to control and ensure the correct application of the general rules and guidelines by all team members and all subcontractors involved in quantity definition activities.
- Engineering project document management. Capability to analyze engineering documents (e.g. Instruction to Tender, Client and subcontractor documents, etc.) identifying improvement areas in terms of cost/time optimization.
- Engineering reporting techniques. Capability to monitor and control the engineering progress and schedule. Contribute to Project reporting for the relevant engineering part.
- Engineering Subcontractor management and control. Capability to handle subcontracted engineering work packages defining the scope of work, the milestones, and documentation deliverables. Capability to control the quality, the costs, and the timing of the subcontracted activities ensuring compliance with project scheduling and goals and with contract requirements.
- Engineering technical software tools. User-level knowledge of Corporate and Operating Center Discipline technical design software tools. User-level knowledge of Corporate and Operating Center IT tools supporting business processes such as electronic document system management, procurement, and office automation applications.
- Engineering equipment testing. Capability to define technical requirements for Discipline equipment and materials workshop testing according to Corporate standards, procedures, methods, and tools
- Engineering Material Testing. Capability to define technical requirements for Discipline equipment and materials workshop testing according to Corporate standards, procedures, methods, and tools
- Corrosion and protection. Knowledge of the principles of corrosion and corrosion control methodologies. Knowledge of the potential corrosion damage mechanisms affecting the materials used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors when exposed to both the process (i.e. internal) and service (i.e. external) environments, including transient operations, e.g. installation, pre-commissioning, start-up and shut-down. Knowledge of the main Industry models and software for corrosion assessment in both sour and sweet services, their applicability and limitations, and ability to perform corrosion rate calculations and corrosion assessment evaluations. Knowledge of the main metallic (and non-metallic) materials, their chemical, physical, and mechanical properties, their corrosion resistance properties in the various process and service environments, and their interaction with each other. Knowledge of the main corrosion control methodologies, such as materials selection, process control, metallurgical controls, chemical treatment, coatings/paintings/linings, cathodic protection (both sacrificial anodes and ICCP), cleaning/preservation strategies, their applicability, and limitations. Knowledge of the main applicable Industry materials selection and corrosion control international standards and codes (such as NACE, API, ISO, NORSOK, DNVGL, etc.) and ability to analyze Clients standards.
- Fracture mechanic. Knowledge of the main Standards and Codes for Engineering Criticality Assessment (ECA) and Fitness for Service (FFS) (i.e. BS7910, DNVGL-RP- F108, DNV-ST-F101, API1104, API 579, BS 7448). Knowledge of the Fracture Mechanics Principles and their applications. Knowledge of the Fatigue Analysis principles and testing methods. Knowledge of mechanical properties of metals and standard testing. Knowledge of Crackwise software for Engineering Criticality Assessment, Matlab, and Pyton. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and software (i.e. Abaqus). Knowledge of the Mechanical Design principles and Stress Analysis in order to select the relevant state of stress to be considered in fracture mechanics evaluations. Knowledge of the Fracture Toughness testing methods and standards.
- Material engineering. Knowledge of the principles of metallurgy and materials science. Knowledge of the main metallic (and non-metallic) materials used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors, their chemical, physical, and mechanical properties, their applicability, limitations and costs, and other relevant features e.g. market availability, shop and field fabrication, joining methods, etc. Knowledge of manufacturing processes of products used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors in different materials, such as steel making, hot and cold forming (e.g. rolling, forging, drawing, extrusion, casting, etc.), heat treatment, welding and finishing operations and their influence on final mechanical and corrosion resistance properties. Ability to draft Product Specifications for components used in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors, such as line pipes, hot induction bends, flanges and fittings, forgings, etc.. and knowledge of impacts of product properties on Client processes and technologies. Knowledge of materials suppliers in the upstream and downstream Oil and Gas sectors, their capabilities, and limitations. Ability to review suppliers' offers, perform technical alignments and evaluations, and participate in technical meetings. Knowledge of materials destructive and non-destructive test methods used during product manufacturing, their applicability, and limitations. Knowledge of the main applicable Industry materials International standards and codes (such as ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, DNVGL, etc.) and ability to analyze Clients' Specifications and standards.
- NDT engineering. Knowledge of the physics principles at the basis of inspection techniques applicable to pipeline girth welds and base material checks in the manufacturing of final or semi-finished products (pipes, forged, castings, etc.). Specific knowledge of advanced technologies (PA-UT, TOFD, TFM/FMC, Digital RT, etc.) applied to welded joints. Strong knowledge of defects typical in any automatic and manual welding process. Knowledge of main manufacturing processes for finished and semi-finished products (pipes, forgings, castings, etc..) with a focus on the typical defects in order to review any NDT documentation of potential Vendors on EPCI and T&I contracts. Capability in the interpretation of international codes, Client Specification, and acceptance criteria. Knowledge of Client NDT equipment (AUT, RT, etc..) and capability in the preparation of coherent NDT procedures/work instructions and fabrication specifications to subcontractors. Capability of NDT data interpretations/analysis and statistical evaluations to develop NDT qualification programs.
- Welding engineering and techniques. Knowledge of the welding processes required by projects for offshore/onshore/fabrication yard activities (GMAW, SAW, FCAW, PAW, SMAW, GTAW, Carbon Arc Air Gouging, etc.). Knowledge of various types of welding machines (e.g. automatic, mechanized, etc..) and capability to select the main welding consumables (wires, flux, electrodes, filling rods, shielding gas, etc..) and define their storage requirements. Knowledge of different international codes/standards to develop and review Preliminary Welding Procedure Specification (PWPS) and Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), including welding repair procedures. Capability to use the main test and measuring instruments to monitor the welding process parameters/performance. Knowledge of mechanical and metallurgical testing to be performed during the Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) execution and review. Capability to analyze the specific Project requirements and identify implementation action on the PQRs, WPSs, and Project documents for production coverage. Knowledge of main NDT methods and equipment, capability to notice indications and defects on the welded joints.
- Welding materials and equipment. Knowledge of welding equipment of common use in Client projects. Capability to perform troubleshooting and propose corrective action. Capability to identify the most suitable equipment and equipment consumable for any specific case.
- HSE Work Practices. Knowledge of the main risks during the operation activities and safe working and environmental protection procedures/practices & rules to be applied. Knowledge of adequate Personal Protective Equipment - purpose, use, and maintenance Knowledge and the correct use of the Permit to Work system.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTIONS
- Follow welding through all its aspects from the bid phase when the welding philosophy has to be set to Project completions, looking at solutions of high-quality level and high productivity, according to the Project Schedule, monitoring, and supporting the Production Phase.
- Promote and support new welding solutions, techniques, and consumables to achieve the most competitive and strategic results
- Assist and support the Welding Coordinator and/or project teams on all welding matters
- Prepare and issue preliminary Welding Documents for assigned projects or bids
- Review client's specifications and scopes of work, examine pipe metallurgy, and prepare detailed Welding procedures to achieve maximum productivity in accordance with required quality levels
- Coordinate and schedule personnel and systems for the qualification of welding procedures and welders
- Review subcontractor's tender documents and technical qualifications
- Assist the QHSE Department with subcontractor assessments/audits
- Review and approve subcontractors Welding submissions
- Ensure that Welding traceability info is recorded, maintained, and available in the required format for all Welding activities to demonstrate achievement of client requirements
- Review journals and technical papers for new welding technology. Maintain contact with welding equipment suppliers and consumable vendors to promote advances in welding technology
- Maintain updated departmental project Welding files and database so that information is readily available to other department members
- Liaise with the barge personnel, particularly welding supervisors and operative welding figures, and assist in optimising work methods and troubleshooting where and when required
- Monitor lay barge progress to identify opportunities for improvement
- Contract Technical review to verify Project Technical requirements for Welding Activities
- Propose the Base material Purchase strategy for a fabrication Project
- Prepare and issue Welding Documents (Welding Books, WPSs, WPQR, PTW report, Procedures, etc.)
- Evaluate and estimate type and quantity of welding consumables
- Prepare Purchase Requests for Welding Consumable
- Monitor Consumables consumed along the project, evaluating additional Consumable Purchase, if required
- Monitor the Welding Quality through the analysis of the trends of Project Defect Rates and Welder's defect rates prepared by the QHSE Dept., proposing improvement actions.
