About the job Senior DeltaV Controls Engineer – Life Sciences Automation
Our client is seeking a Senior DeltaV Controls Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and delivery of large‑scale automation projects within the Life Sciences industry. This role requires deep expertise with Emerson DeltaV, strong knowledge of cGMP‑compliant automation, and the ability to guide full project lifecycles from requirements through commissioning and validation.
You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize biopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing processes, ensuring systems meet regulatory, operational, and performance standards.

Responsibilities:
DeltaV System Architecture & Design
- Architect scalable control strategies aligned with industry best practices.
- Design ISA‑88 batch sequencing, phase logic, and recipe structures.
- Plan and manage DeltaV system licensing for cost‑effective deployment.
- Apply class‑based configuration methodologies to maximize standardization and scalability.
- Develop high‑performance HMIs using DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate in accordance with ISA‑101.
- Lead the design and implementation of DeltaV control systems for complex Life Sciences capital projects.
Automation Engineering & Integration
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, GAMP5, and 21 CFR Part 11.
- Integrate third‑party equipment using OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus.
- Specify and procure instrumentation, hardware, and control components.
- Troubleshoot complex automation issues and drive continuous improvement.
Project Leadership
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across project teams.
- Oversee full project lifecycle including URS, design, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and validation.
- Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans; ensure on‑time, within‑budget delivery.
- Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure project success.
Infrastructure, Networking & Electrical
- Define server architecture, virtualization, cybersecurity, and redundancy requirements.
- Implement industrial networking solutions (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, FF)
- Design electrical systems including power distribution, panel layouts, and grounding.
Travel
- Travel up to 25% for commissioning and client support.
Qualifications/Must-Haves:
- Proficiency with DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate.
- Experience integrating electrical and process control systems.
- Knowledge of server infrastructure and virtualization technologies.
- Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Expertise in ISA‑101 HMI design and high‑performance graphics.
- Deep understanding of cGMP, GAMP5, and 21 CFR Part 11.
- 8–15 years of automation and control systems engineering experience.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with Emerson DeltaV (design, configuration, implementation)
- Strong experience with ISA‑88 batch processing and historian integration.
- Proficiency with industrial communication protocols (HART, FF, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA)
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Skills:
- 3+ years of technical leadership or mentoring experience.
- Experience in biopharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing environments.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation, Siemens PCS7, or Inductive Automation Ignition.
Working Environment:
- Onsite role in an office and manufacturing environment.
- Occasional lifting, climbing, and onsite commissioning work.
- May require occasional nights, weekends, or extended hours during critical project phases.
