About the job Controller – Small Business Accounting | QuickBooks
Our client is seeking a Controller to oversee the full accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting functions for multiple company entities. This role manages daily financial operations, ensures compliance with tax and licensing requirements, and supports leadership with accurate reporting and process improvements. The Controller works closely with ownership and management to maintain the financial health of the organization.

Requirements:
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Track and reconcile store deposits.
- Coordinate with external accountants as needed.
- Process payroll across all company locations.
- Prepare and file required tax forms (1095, 1094, 1099)
- Manage daily accounting and bookkeeping activities for multiple entities.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports and consumer sales reporting.
- Perform bank reconciliations and maintain general ledger accuracy.
- Manage POS reporting and prepare Profit & Loss statements.
Licensing & Compliance
- Manage property and real estate tax filings.
- Assist with financial estimates and forecasting.
- Support lottery, health, and liquor licensing requirements.
Office & Operational Support
- Maintain an organized and efficient office environment.
- Participate in hiring and termination of office staff when needed.
- Identify and implement technology or process improvements.
Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrate professionalism and people‑first leadership.
- Represent the company positively within the community.
- Communicate proactively with ownership regarding priorities, challenges, or unclear responsibilities.
Qualifications/Must-Haves:
- Payroll processing experience.
- Hands‑on QuickBooks Online experience.
- 5+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and P&L statements.
- Knowledge of tax documentation and compliance filings (1095, 1094, 1099)
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with POS systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience in hospitality, retail, or multi‑location environments.
