Details of the Role:
- Programming:
- Thinking about strategies: determining the best approach for a part so it can be produced efficiently (quickly) and safely.
- Creating CNC programs within Fusion/Mastercam or other programming software
- Knowing and assigning the correct speeds and feeds to ensure safe machining; chips should break cleanly, avoiding clogs, etc.
- Being aware of all tool possibilities.
- On the shop floor:
- Ensuring all machines are running, understanding that downtime equals lost money.
- Setting up and loading machines (mounting tools correctly).
- Communicating with management so everyone is informed.
- Keeping the workspace tidy and identifying and implementing possible improvements.
- Performing systematic minor maintenance (checking oil levels).
- Checking parameters:
- Measuring workpieces and adjusting if necessary.
- Quality control.
- Checking coolant ratios to ensure optimal performance.
- Automation:
- Having knowledge of automation and using it, as well as further implementing it on the shop floor (bar feeders, robots, cobots, APL, etc.) so that machines can run as long as possible after hours.
Skills needed for the role:
- Technical education in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or CNC machining (vocational or bachelor level)
- Several years of hands-on CNC experience (milling and/or turning)
- Strong knowledge of tools, materials, speeds and feeds
- Experience with CAM software such as Fusion 360 or Mastercam
- Ability to set up machines independently and troubleshoot issues
- Understanding of production efficiency and minimizing machine downtime
- Experience with measuring tools and quality control
- Basic maintenance knowledge (e.g. oil checks, machine condition)
- Interest or experience in automation (bar feeders, robots, cobots, APL)
- Practical, hands-on mindset with sense of responsibility on the shop floor
- Good communication skills and proactive attitude toward improvements
