This role offers a valuable opportunity to help shape and strengthen a strong risk management culture within the Canada Segment. Reporting directly to the AVP of Risk Management, the Senior Manager, Operational Risk Management is responsible for ensuring that business units adhere to the processes, risk guidelines, and control standards established under the Enterprise and Operational Risk Management Frameworks. The position requires sound business judgment, strong technical expertise in risk management, and excellent communication and influencing abilities when working with stakeholders across different organizational levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide second-line oversight of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) by questioning assumptions, analyzing potential risk exposure, and applying risk management expertise along with strong relationship management and critical thinking skills.

  • Propose enhancements to processes and controls, and work with the business to create practical and effective action plans to address identified weaknesses.

  • Identify, track, and monitor key risks, issues, and remediation plans while collaborating closely with First Line and 1B partners to ensure timely and effective resolution.

  • Maintain clear documentation of oversight activities to ensure compliance with enterprise risk management frameworks, methodologies, and tools.

  • Support the Canada Segment Risk Committee by preparing high-quality meeting materials, drafting accurate minutes, coordinating contributions from various teams, monitoring action items, maintaining the committee agenda, and compiling comprehensive monthly meeting packages to facilitate informed oversight and decision-making.

  • Participate in various risk management initiatives as needed, including assessments related to risk culture and emerging risks.

  • Ensure adherence to Financials policies and enterprise risk standards, while promptly escalating any risk concerns when appropriate.

  • Enhance collaboration with oversight and assurance groups such as Internal Audit, Compliance, Legal, and Information Security, and maintain effective relationships across departments to strengthen enterprise-wide risk management.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of risk management tools, frameworks, and methodologies, with 3–5 years of experience in operational risk management or closely related areas such as operations management, finance, third-party risk, fraud, legal, audit, compliance, or risk consulting.

  • Proven ability to perform effective oversight and challenge processes, including evaluating the design and effectiveness of controls.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, influence, collaborate, and build strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders.

  • Ability to develop impactful presentations that clearly summarize complex issues into concise decision points and actionable plans.

  • Knowledge of financial services or insurance products and industry practices.

  • Strong team player who can work effectively within a matrixed organizational environment.

  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.

  • Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to think strategically.
