Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Accountant (Import & Export – International Trading Company) to oversee financial management, trade finance, tax compliance, and reporting for international import and export operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, managing foreign currency transactions, monitoring logistics costs, and ensuring compliance with customs regulations and international trade requirements. This role requires strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of global trade finance to support efficient and compliant business operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Reporting
- Maintain accurate financial records for all import and export transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to international trade operations.
- Reconcile bank accounts, trade receivables, payables, and foreign currency accounts.
- Analyze costs, profitability, and pricing of imported and exported goods.
- Monitor financial performance of international trading activities and provide management reports.
2. Taxation & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with customs duties, VAT regulations, and international trade tax requirements.
- Prepare and manage statutory filings and customs-related documentation.
- Monitor changes in import/export tariffs, tax policies, and financial regulations affecting international trade.
- Support compliance audits and regulatory inspections.
3. Cost Control & Foreign Exchange Management
- Track logistics costs, freight charges, insurance expenses, and customs duties.
- Monitor exchange rate fluctuations and support currency risk management activities.
- Recommend cost-saving initiatives to improve international trade transaction efficiency.
- Ensure accurate application of foreign exchange rates in financial records.
4. Trade Finance & Foreign Transactions
- Process foreign currency payments and receipts in compliance with banking regulations.
- Coordinate with banks regarding Letters of Credit (LCs), trade finance facilities, and international payment terms.
- Review and reconcile trade finance transactions and foreign currency settlements.
5. Inventory & Logistics Coordination
- Work closely with procurement, supply chain, and logistics teams to track shipments and financial settlements.
- Ensure proper valuation of imported and exported goods for financial reporting purposes.
- Verify bills of lading, invoices, customs clearance records, and other trade documents.
6. Audit & Internal Controls
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits related to international trade activities.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to prevent fraud, errors, and transaction discrepancies.
- Maintain organized filing systems for trade agreements, invoices, customs documents, and tax records.
7. Communication & Coordination
- Liaise with customs agents, freight forwarders, banks, and regulatory authorities.
- Coordinate with logistics, procurement, and finance teams to support smooth trade operations.
- Provide financial insights, cost analysis, and trade risk assessments to senior management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (T), ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting certification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in import/export accounting, preferably within an international trading company.
- Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, customs duties, VAT, and taxation.
- Experience handling Letters of Credit (LCs) and trade finance transactions.
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP platforms.
- Strong analytical, cost management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple international transactions under strict deadlines.
- Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and compliance awareness.
