Job Summary

CNS Group is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surveyor / GPS Measurement Officer for a large scale sugarcane estate development project in Morogoro. The role is responsible for conducting topographic, boundary, and progress measurement surveys across the estate to support accurate land development planning, infrastructure layout, area measurement, and mapping using modern GPS and survey instruments. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical surveying skills, proven experience with RTK GPS and Total Station equipment, and proficiency in GIS and AutoCAD software within a large scale land development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct GPS surveys for farm block boundaries, roads, drainage, and irrigation layouts across the estate in accordance with the project's land development plans and design specifications.
  • Set out and peg clearing boundaries, road centre lines, canal alignments, and irrigation blocks accurately to support bush clearing, road construction, and drainage works teams on the ground.
  • Measure and compute areas cleared, roads built, and drains excavated for progress reports, area certificates, and contract measurement verification purposes.
  • Prepare and maintain AutoCAD and GIS estate maps, block plans, and layout drawings, ensuring all spatial data is accurately captured, updated, and archived throughout the project.
  • Carry out topographic surveys and generate digital elevation models to support infrastructure design, drainage planning, and land development decision making.
  • Run traverse surveys and benchmarking using Total Station or RTK GPS equipment, ensuring all survey control points are accurately established and maintained across the estate.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and safeguard all survey instruments and equipment, reporting any faults or calibration issues to the Land Development Manager promptly.
  • Process survey data and submit measurement reports, area certificates, and as-built drawings to the project team in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support contract measurement and quantity verification for earth-moving contractors, ensuring all certified quantities are accurately measured and documented.
  • Maintain a field survey register and archive all survey records, field notes, and supporting documentation in an organised and retrievable manner.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or GIS is preferred. A Bachelor's Degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of field surveying experience, preferably in large scale land development or estate projects is preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience with RTK GPS, Total Station, and GIS or AutoCAD software is preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, QGIS, and Google Earth Pro for map preparation and spatial data management is recommended.
  • Knowledge of coordinate systems, datums, and the Tanzania geodetic control network is recommended.
  • Ability to process survey data and produce accurate measurement reports, area certificates, and as-built drawings is recommended.
  • AQRB registration is an added advantage.
  • Experience with drone UAV survey data and photogrammetry is an added advantage.
