Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to lead the planning, execution, and supervision of mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning, plant start-up, performance testing, and final handover for a gold processing plant. The successful candidate will ensure all mechanical systems are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering specifications, OEM requirements, industry standards, and operational readiness objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities for mineral processing facilities.
• Develop commissioning procedures, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), work packs, commissioning schedules, and system completion dossiers.
• Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, mechanical layouts, technical specifications, and vendor documentation.
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, Constructability Reviews, and Operational Readiness Reviews.
• Verify mechanical completion and coordinate punch-list close-out activities.
• Supervise equipment alignment, lubrication, flushing, pressure testing, leak testing, belt tracking, and mechanical inspections.
• Commission major plant equipment including crushers, SAG mills, ball mills, conveyors, vibrating screens, feeders, pumps, cyclones, thickeners, CIL/CIP systems, elution systems, carbon regeneration kilns, reagent systems, compressors, piping, and water treatment systems.
• Coordinate dry commissioning, wet commissioning, FATs, SATs, and performance testing activities.
• Support plant start-up, troubleshoot mechanical issues, optimize equipment reliability, and achieve operational readiness.
• Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, EPC Contractors, OEM Representatives, Construction Teams, and Electrical & Instrumentation Engineers throughout commissioning.
• Ensure strict compliance with Mine Safety Procedures, LOTO, Permit-to-Work systems, confined space requirements, environmental regulations, and company HSE standards.
• Prepare commissioning reports, completion certificates, turnover packages, handover documentation, and lessons learned reports.
• Recommend process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and future commissioning performance.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

• Registered Professional Engineer or eligible for registration with a recognized engineering body.
• Valid Driver’s Licence.
• Commissioning certification, OEM certifications, or Project Management training will be an added advantage.
• Minimum 8–10 years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
• Minimum 5 years of commissioning experience in mineral processing plants.
• Proven experience commissioning Gold Processing Plants, preferably CIL/CIP operations.
• Experience working on EPC/EPCM mining projects.
• Experience in both greenfield and brownfield commissioning projects.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical commissioning methodologies, rotating equipment, slurry systems, conveyors, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, piping, valves, preventive maintenance, reliability engineering, QA/QC, ISO standards, and risk management.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, MS Project, SAP PM or similar CMMS, and basic AutoCAD. Primavera P6 and commissioning software are advantageous.
• Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, planning, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in remote mining environments while maintaining the highest safety standards.
• Fluency in English or French.
• Willingness to relocate to Madagascar.
