Job Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer (Desktop, Infrastructure & Networks) to ensure the stability, security, reliability, and efficient operation of the organisation’s IT systems and infrastructure.

The successful candidate will be responsible for server administration, network and desktop support, IT infrastructure management, system upgrades and deployments, troubleshooting, systems planning, and user support. The role will also provide technical support for lottery draw operations, including monitoring, reporting, maintenance, and ensuring reliable communication between the studio and data centre.

Key Responsibilities

1. IT Server, Network & Infrastructure Administration

  • Perform daily administration of servers, including operating system and software installation, patching, firmware updates, hardware upgrades, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage user accounts, file-sharing permissions, backups and restores, printers, queues, and overall system performance.
  • Provide network, infrastructure, and desktop support across Tanzania operations.
  • Perform system upgrades, infrastructure designs, and technology rollouts.
  • Support the management of networks, databases, servers, and virtualisation environments.
  • Monitor systems to minimise downtime and ensure reliable IT operations.
  • Investigate complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Continually review IT processes and procedures and recommend improvements.

2. Systems Strategy & Planning

  • Work with network teams and other IT personnel to ensure reliable operation of systems supporting business objectives.
  • Engage with management, decision-makers, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and systems needs.
  • Identify and resolve business systems issues and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
  • Contribute to IT infrastructure planning and improvement initiatives.

3. Systems Acquisition & Deployment

  • Design and deploy new applications, operating systems, and enhancements to existing systems.
  • Research IT products and technologies and provide recommendations to support procurement decisions.
  • Conduct cost-benefit and return-on-investment assessments for proposed systems where required.
  • Work with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to acquire and implement IT products and services.
  • Coordinate system implementation and ensure successful deployment.

4. Systems Operational Management

  • Monitor the effectiveness, performance, and efficiency of existing systems.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve system performance and maximise the value of IT infrastructure.
  • Develop system design models, specifications, diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate system security, operational procedures, and IT service management practices are maintained.

5. IT Customer Support

  • Provide professional IT support to internal users across different locations.
  • Ensure agreed service levels are achieved and technical issues are resolved within required timelines.
  • Monitor service desk requests and ensure users are kept informed about the status of outstanding issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve IT support services and user satisfaction.
  • Communicate technical issues and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical users.

6. Lottery Draw Operations

  • Provide technical support during lottery draw operations on a rotational basis.
  • Support data centre operators with technical draw operations, monitoring, checklists, and reporting.
  • Ensure the reliability and accuracy of communication and information between the studio and data centre during draw events.
  • Support the maintenance and audit of draw systems and related infrastructure.
  • Ensure draw-related IT activities comply with applicable organisational and statutory requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues that could affect draw operations or result in business losses.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in IT Server Engineering and Administration.
  • At least 2 years of experience in IT Infrastructure Management, preferably within a data centre environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Network Management.
  • Experience in server administration, networks, data centres, IT infrastructure, databases, virtualisation, and desktop support.
  • Experience in system upgrades, deployments, troubleshooting, and infrastructure support.
  • Experience in lottery or gaming operations will be highly advantageous.
  • ITIL certification, preferably at an advanced level, is an added advantage.
  • Professional certifications such as A+, N+, CompTIA, MCSE, or equivalent are an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of IT security principles, systems planning, software management, and IT Service Management.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong project management, research, and technical documentation skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple technical issues in a high-pressure environment.
  • Highly self-motivated, organised, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong ability to take ownership of technical issues and drive them through to resolution.
