HVAC Engineer

Job Summary

Our client in the Hospitality industry is seeking a technically competent and experienced HVAC Engineer - Air Conditioning to oversee the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and performance of air-conditioning and ventilation systems within a hospitality environment in Dar es Salaam.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, inspect and maintain air-conditioning and ventilation systems across the property.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC equipment according to established maintenance schedules.
• Maintain and repair split units, packaged units, central air-conditioning systems and other HVAC equipment installed within the property.
• Monitor cooling performance, temperature conditions, airflow and overall system efficiency.
• Inspect compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, motors, filters, thermostats, control systems and associated components.
• Identify equipment faults and carry out appropriate repairs or recommend replacement where necessary.
• Conduct routine cleaning and servicing of air-conditioning equipment to maintain efficiency and indoor air quality.
• Respond promptly to HVAC breakdowns and guest-area maintenance requests to minimize operational disruption.
• Support installation, testing and commissioning of new or replacement HVAC equipment where required.
• Monitor refrigerant systems and ensure refrigerant handling is performed safely and appropriately.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, servicing, repairs, breakdowns and replacement parts.
• Monitor spare-parts requirements and communicate maintenance material needs to the relevant department.
• Coordinate with engineering, maintenance and facilities teams on technical issues affecting building operations.
• Supervise technicians or external HVAC contractors where assigned.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with workplace health and safety requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce unnecessary HVAC operating costs.
• Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are maintained safely and professionally.
• Support emergency maintenance requirements and participate in scheduled engineering activities.
• Prepare technical maintenance reports and communicate recurring equipment issues to management.
• Perform other engineering and maintenance duties assigned by management.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma or recognized technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC & Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Building Services Engineering, or other related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant HVAC and air-conditioning experience.
• Previous experience within hotels, resorts, commercial buildings or similar hospitality environments is highly desirable.
• Strong practical knowledge of air-conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation systems.
• Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of HVAC equipment.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and control-system faults.
• Knowledge of compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, fans, thermostats and HVAC controls.
• Practical knowledge of refrigerant systems and safe refrigerant-handling practices.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, equipment specifications and basic engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to respond effectively to urgent maintenance and operational requirements.
• Good record-keeping and technical reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineering and maintenance teams.
