Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 + bonus + benefits

The Company
Our client is a pioneering, science-led nature restoration consultancy with over three decades of experience delivering habitat restoration at scale. The Role
As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological projects while supporting and mentoring a growing team. This position combines technical expertise, project leadership, and stakeholder engagement to make a tangible difference for biodiversity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership:
- Manage ecological projects from inception to completion, ensuring quality, budget adherence, and client satisfaction.
- Provide technical input and review for ecological deliverables, including BNG assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs).
- Fieldwork & Reporting:
- Conduct and oversee UKHab surveys and species-specific surveys, including bird surveys (breeding and wintering).
- Prepare ecological reports, mitigation licences, and biodiversity strategies in compliance with UK legislation.
- Utilise GIS for data analysis and habitat mapping on large-scale projects.
- Nature Recovery & Rewilding:
- Design and implement rewilding and habitat restoration strategies, including species reintroductions and biodiversity monitoring.
- Support the development of bio-indicators for nature recovery and innovative approaches to ecological enhancement.
- Team Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members, helping them achieve licensable standards.
- Support staff development through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Client Engagement & Business Development:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, delivering creative and sustainable ecological solutions.
- Contribute to ecological tenders and proposals to secure future projects.
About You
The ideal candidate is a passionate and experienced ecologist with strong technical skills, commercial awareness, and a collaborative mindset. You are adept at managing projects, leading fieldwork, and mentoring teams, with a commitment to advancing ecological best practices.
Essential Attributes:
- Degree in Ecology or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in ecological consultancy.
- Membership of CIEEM.
- Extensive experience conducting UKHab surveys and species-specific surveys.
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
Desirable Attributes:
- Protected Species Licence(s).
- Experience producing EcIAs, HRAs, and ecological mitigation licences.
- Proficiency in GIS for ecological mapping and analysis.
- Knowledge of rewilding principles and biodiversity metrics.
- Experience in delivering BNG assessments and habitat creation/restoration plans.
