About the job Pre Construction Manager
Pre-Construction Manager
Location: Tomball, TX
Salary: $120,000–$150,000+ bonuses
Schedule: Full-Time | Office-Based with Field Coordination as Needed
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a high-performing construction firm seeking a sharp, forward-thinking Pre-Construction Manager to take ownership of projects immediately after award and prepare them for seamless handoff to the project management and field teams. This position is strategic, detail-oriented, and highly collaborative—ideal for someone intelligent, motivated, organized, and eager to grow into a future leadership role within the company. This is not an estimating role; instead, it is the operational bridge between estimating, planning, and execution.
About the Role
The Pre-Construction Manager will work directly with a senior executive, taking awarded projects through a structured, thorough preparation process. This includes verifying plan changes, validating takeoffs, coordinating budget confirmation, identifying permitting and inspection requirements, and creating the foundational structure used to launch each project successfully.
This individual must be a fast learner, able to operate independently, and confident enough to collaborate with project managers, construction managers, vendors, analysts, and leadership. The right person will bring a balance of existing experience and upward potential—someone who is ready to contribute on day one but hungry for professional growth and long-term advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and initiation phase for all awarded projects
- Review IFB vs. IFC plans to identify design changes, omissions, or inconsistencies
- Verify quantities and confirm takeoffs
- Identify gaps in scope, missing quotes, or budget uncertainties
- Collaborate with the Data Analyst to approve final pre-construction budgets
- Build the framework for the company's project tracking system
- Assist in vendor selection and procurement strategy
- Identify all required permits and inspections and develop a clear plan for securing them
- Determine critical path activities and communicate them effectively to project teams
- Create and organize pre-construction meeting agendas and schedules
- Support project managers and construction managers as projects transition into execution
- Provide light technical assistance to the estimating team when needed
Who Thrives in This Role
- Highly intelligent, analytical, and detail-driven
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills
- Naturally proactive with the ability to take direction and run with it
- Comfortable working closely with leadership and trusted to handle critical tasks
- Respected by operations teams and confident in conversations with PMs, CMs, vendors, and partners
- Brings enough hands-on construction understanding to spot problems early, but is also coachable and adaptable to the company's systems and standards
- Ambitious professional looking for a role with long-term growth potential
Why This Role Matters
This position fills a crucial gap between project award and project launch—a phase that directly impacts profitability, scheduling, and execution quality. By managing pre-construction with precision and consistency, the Pre-Construction Manager allows the rest of the organization to operate more efficiently, reduces risk, and improves the smooth flow of every project.
