Summary of the role

This role requires metal fitting/welding for the installation and fabrication of air conditioning ducts on commercial and residential construction projects.

Skill Requirements

  • Install and set up sheet metal ducting to specification.
  • Accurately interpret blueprints and drawings for ducting layouts.
  • Work at various heights and levels, including overhead ducting installations.
  • Fit and weld air conditioning ducts when necessary.
  • Apply insulation (lagging) to piping and ducts.
  • Analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine material and equipment requirements.
  • Select metal stock (stainless steel, galvanized iron, mild steel, aluminum, and copper) and verify sizes, gauges, and dimensions.
  • Mark metal stock with reference points and lines using templates and measuring instruments.
  • Precisely cut metal stock along guidelines with hand and power shears, laser, plasma cutters, guillotines, and drills.
  • Shape and form cut metal stock into products using folding and bending machines, rollers, presses, and hammers.
  • Fit and assemble components into final products through welding, riveting, soldering, brazing, and other joining techniques.
  • Apply finishing touches to products, including polishing, filing, sanding, and cleaning assembled items.
  • Potential responsibilities may include the repair of damaged sheet metal products and components.
  • Specialization opportunities may be available in fabrication, on-site assembly and installation, particularly for sheet metal products.
  • May engage in producing advanced aircraft sheet metal components, requiring adeptness in drawing and calculations.
  • Potential specialization in decorative copperwork.
  • Interpret engineering production drawings.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust production equipment to shape metal stock, castings, and cut sheet metal.
  • Proficiency in operating welding and electroplating equipment.
  • Operate furnaces and quenching plants for smelting and changing metal structures.
  • Use kilns and ovens for firing ceramics.
  • Involved in mineral ore processing and operation of metal rolling equipment.
  • Cast molten metal and draw metal wire through dies using plant machinery.
  • Analyze blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements.
  • Select, clean, and prepare metal stock for specific projects.
  • Precisely cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines.
  • Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering.
  • Align parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Join metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting, and riveting.
  • Examine welds for width of bead, penetration, and precision.
  • Finalize products by cleaning, polishing, filing, and bathing in acidic solutions.
  • Clean and smooth welds through filing, chiselling, and grinding.

Qualifications

  • More than 3 years of work experience, preferably from overseas
  • Can provide certificate of employment supporting the work experience
  • With good level of English communication
  • With valid driver's license
