Position Summary

The Project Manager (PM) Finance is an important role that involves interacting with program team members for 2-3 projects and their leaders along with sole responsible for 3-5 core functional activity in Finance function in CSF. The Project Manager will report to either project Lead or directly to the Head of Finance. Further, for the projects assigned to PM, he/ she is directly responsible for budgeting, MIS reporting, donor management, payables and other allied activities as part of managing the core financial aspect for assigned projects. This person will also assist and provide support to the Finance team as & when required to build robust, seamless processes, effectively driving operations across CSF.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Accounting work experience of 3-5 years as an individual contributor and working in a team size of 5+ people. Experience in social sector is preferable.

  • A Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or related discipline

  • Strong command and understanding of accounting principles, concepts, etc. and experience of working in Tally as an accounting software is compulsory.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with working knowledge of excel, ppt, etc.

  • Able prioritise, plan timelines and meet deadlines

  • Ability to consistently meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.

  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, craft possible solutions, and recommend actions

  • Ability to build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships both within and outside the organization, including with colleagues, partners, foundations, grantees, and education product/service providers

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Financial Forecasting and Managing assigned Budget
    • Quarterly review of Budget vs Actuals with reasons for variances beyond 5% documented for Head of Finance for projects assigned to PM


  • Vendor / Partner Management or Procurement
    • Strengthen the procurement process framework comprising an empanelled vendor list, rate cards, verified track records

    • Review contractual agreements between organisations and outside vendors and consultants, including managing and negotiating office and equipment costs

    • Perform partner’s / vendor’s on-site review as part of due diligence


  • Audit & Compliance
    • Ensure timely submission of data, preparation and smooth audit of accounts as per the details required by PL and lead the donors’ review, if advised to do so.

    • Ensure the legal and regulatory compliances across three pillars are well accounted and reported:
      • Statutory compliances: documents are filed and manage compliance with FCRA, Income Tax, GST, Professional Tax, Provident Fund, NPS, etc. and other laws and regulations

      • Donor compliances: Managing donor reporting by
        • recording and issuance of receipts,

        • donor reporting as per the agreed timelines & format

        • providing any other information as & when required

      • Internal compliances: Policy adherence, MIS reporting, etc.


  • Manage and run functions of the accounting for projects / departments assigned including
    • Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Accounting Policies, and grant/contract requirements, and monitor the use of all funds

    • Prepare timely, accurate monthly, quarterly and annual internal/external financial and other meaningful ad hoc reports along with supporting documentation

    • Investigate and explain material variances, highlight trends for management, and provide recommendations

    • Update the Finance Manual on timely intervals

  • Support Finance team and various project teams with their financial queries

  • Support in a centralised contract management system for real-time visibility, self-serve access, and efficient administration
