Position Title: Automation & Controls Engineer
Location: Remote (GA, AL, TN, KY, TX)

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation & Controls Engineer with a strong multidisciplinary background in software control, electrical systems, and mechanical assembly. This role will support the installation, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated equipment used in our production environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong problem-solving abilities and the flexibility to work closely with cross-functional teams on the manufacturing floor.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Control Systems

  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot automation programs, including PLC logic, C#, and related control software.
  • Integrate new automation systems and improve existing equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with software and control vendors to implement system updates and enhancements.

Equipment Operation & Troubleshooting

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain manufacturing equipment and automated production lines.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions by leveraging electrical, software, and mechanical knowledge.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Electrical Systems

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Support electrical wiring, sensor installation, control panel troubleshooting, and system testing.
  • Work with electricians and technicians to ensure safe and compliant electrical setups.

Mechanical Assembly & Integration

  • Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, and adjustments of equipment and modules.
  • Understand mechanical structures, actuators, pneumatics, and motion components.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers during equipment installation and upgrades.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, and maintenance teams to enhance equipment reliability and productivity.
  • Assist in standardizing procedures, documentation, and technical best practices.
  • Support training for operators and maintenance personnel on new equipment and processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or similar).
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency in C# or similar control/automation programming languages.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, sensors, and wiring practices.
  • Mechanical aptitude ability to understand equipment structures and perform hands-on assembly work.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot problems across automation, electrical, and mechanical domains.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in semiconductor, battery, automotive, or industrial automation equipment.
  • Familiarity with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus).
  • Experience with motion control systems, robotics, or vision systems.
  • Knowledge of safety systems and risk assessments (e-stops, interlocks, guarding).
  • Prior experience installing and commissioning automation equipment.

Working Conditions

  • On-site engineering support in manufacturing or equipment installation environment
