About the job Senior R & D Engineer
- Taking charge of the innovative, complex electrical and/or electronic design and development for new products from their initial concept to production release while also focusing on design enhancements for existing products.
- Ensuring the successful completion of designs, testing, specifications, documentation, and qualification of products throughout the project lifecycle.
- Setting and achieving project goals, including timelines, budget, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead the creation of groundbreaking new product designs from concept to early production stages, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of company strategy, needs, and advanced design skills.
- Developing and managing product timelines, incorporating necessary external resources, and devising improvements for current products.
- Advising on manufacturing and design processes that adhere to industry best practices, diagnosing design challenges, and offering cost-efficient solutions.
- Undertaking prototype design experimentation and fabrication, assessing designs for performance and reliability.
- Drafting product specifications, ensuring products meet these through comprehensive documentation, and sharing test results.
- Conducting thorough technical evaluations to validate designs, including feasibility studies, field tests, and competitive analysis. Providing cost estimations for development, production, and tooling.
- Addressing and resolving complex electrical/electronic design issues during and post-development, in collaboration with internal teams, to support the creation of quality products that meet consumer and company needs.
- Producing comprehensive project documentation, maintaining communication with suppliers, and managing Engineering Change Orders (ECO's).
- Supporting operations and suppliers during the new product development phases with tooling, processes, assembly plans, and capacity forecasting.
- Supervising a range of projects from concept to completion, focusing on timelines, budget management, and quality objectives.
- Fulfilling additional responsibilities as needed.
Educational Background:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electronics Engineering (BSET), or an equivalent field.
Experience Required:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D electrical design engineering within the consumer product space is essential.
Specific Expertise in:
- Fixed point arithmetic programming, Phased Array and Beamforming Algorithms, acoustic or sonar instrumentation and applications, and translating functional requirements into detailed system design specifications.
- Experience in developing comercial Phased Array Multibeam Sonar systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) principles and algorithms.
- Experience in programming DSP algorithms in FPGAs using Verilog or VHDL.
- Proficient in CIC++ programming.
- Skilled in MATLAB programming.
- Expertise in designing, programming, and troubleshooting embedded systems interfacing with analog sensors.
- Profound knowledge in designing, evaluating, and testing electronic and/or electrical circuits and components.
- Experience in the complete product development lifecycle from concept to production, including financial modeling (EVA) and project management.
- A track record of translating innovative concepts into manufacturable designs.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects from start to finish.
- Creativity combined with strong analytical and technical skills.
- Excellent communication abilities for effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
- Advanced proficiency in computer-based analysis, simulation, and design tools.
