A family-owned business with a strong legacy of over 80 years in the wood and lumber products industry is seeking a Director of Procurement & Business Operations to lead their manufacturing and remanufacturing division based in Orting, WA. Specializing in providing building materials for multi-family, commercial, and residential construction projects, this company is recognized for its commitment to customer service, competitive pricing, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the manufacturing division to meet and exceed sales and gross margin goals.
  • Procure wood and lumber products from mills and direct suppliers for remanufacturing purposes.
  • Develop and manage storage facilities to support product fulfillment in the South Sound region, ensuring high utilization rates.
  • Track inventory, logistics, and margins through ERP software and ensure seamless order fulfillment.
  • Design and implement product and service strategies to achieve differentiation and competitive advantage in the market.
  • Build and maintain customer relationships while expanding sales channels through proactive outreach.
  • Monitor account profitability and customer satisfaction, addressing concerns promptly.
  • Improve manufacturing operations by enhancing processes, reducing waste, and optimizing costs.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products and services.
  • Provide updates on progress and activities to corporate leadership.

Key Metrics

  • Achieve 75% of service and product sales from internal operations.
  • Improve product margins by at least 2% across branch-level sales.
  • Attain double-digit growth in product volumes and revenue over five years.
  • Ensure storage facility utilization rates exceed 90%.
  • Maintain positive cash flow and drive profitability for the manufacturing division.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of forest products purchasing experience with established supplier and mill relationships within a 250-mile radius of Seattle, WA.
  • 5+ years of sales experience serving general contractors (GCs) or framers in multi-family, commercial, or residential construction.
  • Extensive experience managing operations, branch, or general management within the building materials industry (e.g., lumber yards, mills, or manufacturers).
  • Skilled in managing personnel, especially sales and production/operations teams.
  • Expertise in logistics, inventory management, and procurement of lumber products, particularly Douglas Fir, Spruce, and Gorman Pine.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, problem-solving, and ERP systems (experience with Wood Pro preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
