This role will oversee the development, revision, and execution of polices related to health, safety, environmental practise, and quality assurance, ensuring they align with the local and global regulations in the shipping industry.

The role:

  • Confirm that the HSEQ team finishes pre-vetting for SIRE inspections and that the Marine/Technical Department resolves all identified issues.
  • Risk management and assessments of the daily shipping operations.
  • Providing solutions and safety measures for operations, vessels, cargo, and staff.
  • Overseeing adherence to applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations, standards, and certifications, including the ISM (International Safety Management) Code, ISO standards, regional regulations.
  • Provide training and development programs to personnel (office and crew staff) for health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
  • Organizing the annual Safety Seminar for officer and shipboard personnel and managing the editorial content for all safety circulars and newsletters.
  • Conducting investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental spills to determine root causes. Implementing corrective and preventive measures to avoid future occurrences and reporting incidents to the relevant authorities as per regulatory requirements.
  • Creating and updating emergency response plans for scenarios including oil spills, fires, collisions, groundings, and medical emergencies. Ensuring crew members are adequately trained and equipped to handle emergencies effectively.
  • Ensuring shipping operations minimise the waste, controlling emissions, and compliance to control the environmental pollution.
  • Liaise with vendors and ensure that they are up to date with the current standards and regulations
  • Auditing of documents, for vessels and planning schedules
  • Monitor and set the budget for the HSEQ Department.

Requirements:

  • 5 years or more experience as Superintendent in ship management and operations or Certificate of Competency Class 3 (Deck) - or relevant
