Mechanical Technician
About the job Mechanical Technician
- Examine and test engines to identify problems (visual checks, power checks, scan-tool diagnostics, listening for unusual noise, etc.).
- Identify issues with the fuel, ignition, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, air intake, and engine mounting/suspension systems.
- For a thorough examination and measurement, disassemble engines or their parts (cylinder head, pistons, crankshaft, timing system).
- Reassemble and calibrate the engine in accordance with manuals and specifications after repairing or replacing worn-out and defective parts.
- Carry out routine maintenance, such as tune-ups, belt changes, valve clearance adjustments, oil and filter changes, and spark plug replacements.
- After repair, run the engine (idle and load tests), assess performance, and adjust for
- efficient operation and appropriate fuel usage.
Requirements:
- Trade or postsecondary education related to engines (such as a diploma or degree in Mechanical, automated, marine, or comparable engineering
- Two years of experience in the relevant sector is preferred.
- It is very desirable to have prior experience with offshore or marine engine systems, including winches, hydraulics, piping, and instrumentation.
- It is advantageous to have experience repairing engines and compressors.
- Diesel engines (Yanmar, Lister, Kubota, Deutz, HATZ): replacing injectors, high-pressure fuel systems, and blocks and heads
- Honda gasoline engines: replacing injectors, high-pressure fuel systems, and blocks and heads
