The maintenance supervisor is to assist and ensure that the maintenance crew completes all scheduled work in a timely, efficient, responsible and safe manner. The work includes repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment including buildings, grounds, and utility systems as well as any other company assets in need of service or repair. Further, when break-in or emergency work occurs the supervisor is expected to take the lead in addressing the situation at hand and report to management with a response plan (time, materials, labor).

The supervisor is responsible (i.e. can be shared) to the crew is to do his/her best to provide the tools, resources, coaching and direction needed to meet the above stated objectives.

The supervisor is accountable (i.e. cannot be shared) to the maintenance manager for the safety and performance of the maintenance work force as well as the completion of scheduled work and a quick response to break-in and emergency work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Be proactive in evaluating, prioritizing, and overseeing execution of maintenance work:
    • Work with the Production Supervisor to ensure all processing equipment is available when needed and performs as required to meet customer demand.
    • Supervise the service and repair of all mobile equipment. Equipment includes, but not limited to, forklifts, man-lifts, scissor-lifts, light duty maintenance vehicles.
    • Ensure all preventive and predictive maintenance plans are performed and completed in a comprehensive, efficient, and timely manner
  • Work with Maintenance Manager to identify work force requirements, training and development, and create plans to address the needs:
    • Conduct routine training sessions with the maintenance crew and attend training classes and seminars for self-development
    • Coordinate and supervise training and indoctrination of new and existing maintenance crew members to improve work performance and ensure that all understand facility, departmental, and company policies and procedures
    • Support departmental staffing needs by participating in interviewing, hiring, training and development to retain and develop the best talent for the organization.
    • Ensure company inventory control and cycle counting policies / procedures are adhered to.
  • Accountable for the successful execution and documentation of the weekly work schedule:
    • Arrive 15 min before your crew begins work and have planned work ready at the start of their shift. Barring special circumstances, have crew ready to go to work within 15 minutes of their shift start time.
    • KPI and MTBF report, ensure all work is captured in IFS.
    • Conduct random inspections of machinery and equip entering fault reports for any defects
    • Reviews PMs, UCMs, schedule compliance, and KPIs with hourly crew to keep them aware of performance, successes and challenges.
    • Accountable for payroll time entry and approval, managing time off requests and filing absentee reports with human resources for the maintenance crew
  • Ensure lubrication routes are completed as scheduled, continue use of 5S principles.
  • Ensure that all plant upgrades and installation of equipment are completed according to schedule and plan and done so in a safe, high quality and professional manner.
  • Hold team members accountable to proper work management practices in accordance with company standards and policies. Includes proper and consistent use of the work order process, maintenance inventory usage, work place exams, and preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Accountable for entering time, coding, work notes, and issuing parts to work orders completed by the maintenance team in IFS (CMMS).
  • Responsible for the management of work orders in IFS (CMMS) from released status to work done status indicating all work is done, time entered, parts issued, etc.
  • Responds to priority 1, 2 & 3 fault reports / work orders in a timely manner.
  • Guarantee spare parts are available when needed by ensuring all parts removed from the warehouse are issued to work orders and all inventory control policies and procedures are strictly followed by all maintenance personnel.
  • Engage the hourly maintenance crew in continuous improvement and root-cause analysis activities to continue to improve process reliability and availability.
  • Ensure rail car maintenance is completed according to policy and to the customers satisfaction.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve maint. services, minimize costs, improve safety, effect greater utilization of labor & materials
  • Ensures hourly maintenance crew has the tools, equipment, supplies, and resources they need to perform and complete assigned work in a safe, environmentally responsible & efficient manner.
  • Accountable for the health, safety, and environmental practices of the maintenance crew:
  • Ensure safe maintenance practices, systems, and processes are followed and comply with all federal, state & MSHA regulations and standards.
  • Conduct safety compliance audits (looking for unsafe conditions or unsafe acts)
  • Promote a culture of safe work practices which emphasizes personal awareness, responsibility, and ownership.
  • Responsible for incident investigations within the maintenance department
  • Additional duties as assigned may consist of the following, but are not limited to:
    • Identify opportunities to reduce risk through continuous improvement activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing process environment
  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years industrial maintenance experience with fans, material handling equipment (screw and belt conveyors / bucket elevators / airlocks / pneumatic conveying systems) 480-volt electrical distribution
  • Experience with precision maintenance techniques and their practical application
  • Experience with CMMS systems computer skills (entering work hours, work orders, parts usage, etc.)
  • Awareness of principles related to reliability centered maintenance (RCM) and 5S
  • Awareness of principles related to lean / six sigma
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to comply with all corporate policies and the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA)
  • Work with a high degree of autonomy in a dynamic environment
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating / maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, process flow, P&IDs, and one-line diagrams
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal form.
  • Able to work effectively with supervisors and other personnel
  • Speak effectively to suppliers, contractors, and employees
  • Write routine reports and correspondence
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization and information exists
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment & provided coverage for other supervisor (vac / absences).
