Projects

  • Maintaining and updating the existing suite of stand alone products / modules
  • Roll out of new MVPs for internal customers (some of which will spin off to stand alone products)
  • Case by Case software development (software house) for key clients
  • Updating & migrating legacy code to more modern stack

Responsibilities

  • Managing the existing team of 15 software developers, broken into 5 teams
  • Ensure the workload is shared, developers meet deadlines and their time utilised efficiently
  • Upkeep the code standards, quality, documentation is of high standard from testing to production.
  • Make sure the correct frameworks and architecture is in place for scalable future proof development
  • Qualify and prioritize internal & external projects, manage expectations of end users and customers

Org chart

  • Reporting to the CTO / Country Manager (Malaysian national)
  • He has worked internationally including time with a Silicon Valley unicorn
  • The Head of Engineering is the second most senior role in the engineering team
  • The tech team is 15, broken into 5 teams - each with a lead / senior engineer

Team Culture

  • The engineers have 2-5 years of experience and the lead engineers 6-8 years
  • Start up / scale up culture, you must be okay with changing / pivoting work loads
  • Dont miss deadlines, work hard, sometimes will have to work after 6pm
  • No ego, willing to set an example, step in when needed, fire fighting etc

Must Have

  • Leading teams of >5 people; Hire, train, team budget, timelines, staff development
  • Experience in pre IPO, funded start-up / fast growing companies or reputable software house

Nice to have

  • Experience in a JavaScript environment (React, Vue, Node, Next.Js etc), ChatBots, LLM (Python)
  • System Architecture, cloud deployment, micro-services, API design, API gateways

Level / Grade

  • This is a senior position, you should have 10-15+ years of experience
  • You will currently be a tech lead, dev manager, team lead or Head of engineering etc
  • This is a leadership role not a hands-on engineering / not technical job

Location

  • Leadership work from the office 5 days - flexi start time
  • Based in central KL, accessible by MRT
