Job Title - IP Lawyer
About the Role
We are seeking a highly-skilled and commercially-aware IP Lawyer to manage and protect the organisation' s intellectual property assets, including trademarks, patents, copyrights and trade secrets. The role involves both strategic oversight of the IP portfolio and day-to-day execution of IP registration, enforcement and licensing. The successful candidate will work closely with business, marketing, product and external counsel to ensure the company's IP rights are secured, optimised and defended.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive IP strategy: design annual filing/renewal road-map by IP asset type, territory and class.
Conduct IP clearance searches and advise on go/no-go decisions for trademarks, patents, designs and domains.
Manage the prosecution process: oversee filings, responses to examiner actions, renewals, recordals and docket maintenance.
Monitor and manage IP enforcement and disputes: oppositions/cancellations, takedowns, domain recovery, customs seizures, platform enforcement, litigation support.
Draft, review and negotiate IP-related clauses in commercial contracts, licensing, technology and distribution agreements.
Provide internal advice/training to stakeholders (product, marketing, sales) on IP usage, brand protection and risk mitigation.
Maintain an audit-ready IP registry and create performance reports and dashboards for senior management.
Engage and manage external counsel, agents and service-providers; monitor budgets and deliverables.
Stay up to date with IP laws, regulations and best practices in the UAE/GCC region and globally; propose process improvements and implement SOPs.
Qualifications & Experience
Law degree (LL.B. / J.D.) with admission to practise in at least one jurisdiction.
Minimum 5-7 years (or higher for senior roles) of hands-on IP experience, preferably in the UAE/GCC region, including prosecution, enforcement and licensing matters.
Strong track record in trademark/patent prosecution, brand protection, domain disputes, takedowns, and multi-jurisdictional IP matters.
Proven drafting/negotiation skills for contracts, licensing and commercial transactions.
Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills; able to work cross-functionally and deliver under pressure.
High integrity and sound judgment; ability to handle confidential matters and act with commercial awareness.
Proficiency in MS Office; experience with IP management systems or brand protection tools is an advantage.
Fluency in English; Arabic proficiency is highly desirable.
