About the Role
We are seeking a highly-skilled and commercially-aware IP Lawyer to lead the protection and management of the organisations intellectual property assets in the cybersecurity and IT services domain. The role encompasses strategic oversight of IP strategy and policy, hands-on execution of filings, enforcement, licensing and ensuring the businesss technology and brand assets are safeguarded and monetised appropriately.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive IP strategy aligned with business goals: map asset types (trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, software code) by geography and class, and manage annual filing/renewal road-maps.
Conduct IP clearance and due-diligence searches for trademarks, patents, designs, software modules and domains; advise on go/no-go decisions for new product launches or branding initiatives.
Manage prosecution and portfolio maintenance: supervise filings, handle examiner actions, coordinate renewals, recordals, and maintain an audit-ready docket or registry.
Oversee enforcement and dispute resolution: respond to infringements (digital, counterfeiting, domain abuse), handle takedowns, oppositions/cancellations, customs seizures, UDRP/URS, litigation support as required.
Draft, review and negotiate IP-related provisions in commercial agreements: licensing, technology transfer, distribution, service contracts, software-as-a-service (SaaS) and outsourcing agreements.
Provide IP guidance and training to internal stakeholders (engineering, product, marketing, sales) on correct use of IP, brand protection, open-source compliance and risk mitigation.
Engage and manage external counsel, agents and service providers; monitor budgets and deliverables associated with IP enforcement, filings and licenses.
Monitor market developments, IP jurisprudence, regulatory changes in the UAE/GCC region and globally; integrate insights and recommend improvements or SOPs for IP protection.
Prepare and present regular reports and dashboards to senior management or board: portfolio performance, risk exposures, KPI tracking (e.g., registration success rate, average time to takedown, cost-benefit).
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent; admission to practise in at least one recognised jurisdiction.
Minimum 57 years of hands-on experience in intellectual property law (preferably within software/IT services or cybersecurity) experience in the UAE/GCC region is highly desirable.
Proven track record in trademark and/or patent prosecution, brand protection (especially digital), domain/dispute management and multi-jurisdictional enforcement.
Strong drafting and negotiation skills of commercial/legal documents including licensing, distribution and tech transfer agreements.
Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills; ability to advise senior business executives and cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with IP management tools/systems (e.g., trademark/patent databases), strong proficiency in MS Office and ability to work with legal KPI dashboards.
Fluency in English required; Arabic proficiency is a strong advantage.
