Software Engineer - Trading Systems

About the Role:

CAL is a leading investment bank in Sri Lanka and a technology pioneer in capital market platforms. You'll join a team building systems that span treasury management, fund management, and trading — the kind of work where correctness, reliability, and careful handling of state really matter.

You'll take ownership of meaningful parts of the platform, from external connectivity through to the services and interfaces behind it. You'll work with modern tools and technologies in an AI-enabled engineering environment, in a test-driven setup that gives you fast, reliable feedback on your work.

What you'll work on:

• Integration with external market interfaces and data feeds
• Order and execution handling, including the trickier edge cases
• Backend services, persistence, and the APIs that connect them
• Building and working against a robust automated test setup

Requirements:

• 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong Java (Java 17+); comfortable with concurrency and handling low-level or binary data
• Solid fundamentals in networking (TCP/UDP) and SQL databases
• Interest in protocol-level integration and event-driven data models
• A correctness-first mindset: writes tests, reasons about edge cases and failure modes
• Comfortable working with AI tools as part of the development workflow
• Clear communication; works well in a small team

• Exposure to financial or exchange protocols (e.g. FIX)
• Capital markets / trading domain knowledge
• Experience with high-throughput or messaging systems, gRPC, or Python for tooling
