Our client, an established Freight and Logistics company, are seeking a Transport Manager for their operations based out of Lae, Papua New Guinea.  

This role will be responsible for leading the operations, planning, technical and HR functions of the transport fleet.  The role requires a professional manager to deliver excellent customer service whilst focusing on safety, quality, delivery, cost and innovation.

Responsibilites for this exciting role include:

  • Leading and managing the day-to-day transport operations including FCL, Palletized and Breakbulk deliveries.
  • Managing and mentoring a team of over 100 staff (drivers, admin staff, supervisors and crew), promoting safety, operational excellence and positive team performance.
  • Management of a fleet of 50 company owned trucks (prime movers, side-lifters, rigids), identifying best use of company equipment and driver resources to maximize service efficiencies - Scoping and planning jobs/projects
  • Ensure safety and compliance for the operations
  • Own the P&L for the operation and be responsible for controlling department debtors.
  • Liaising and building business with customers as well as liaising with other departments.
  • Auditing driver/operator records (e.g. run sheets, fuel consumption, docketing, overtime etc.).

The successful applicant would be expected to demonstrate the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Demonstrated industry experience in transport, logistics or supply chain operations, including at least 5 years in a management role 
  • Advanced interpersonal skills - Oral and Written communication
  • Current MC/HC or HR Heavy Vehicle license with a safe driving record.
  • Have a strong commitment to health, safety & leadership.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively manage P&L

Experience in the freight/shipping industry including shipping line container yards will be useful, as will previous overseas work experience especially in a developing country environment.
