Transport Operations Manager - Lae

Cakum Global is recruiting a Transport Operations Manager for our client, an established regional freight and logistics operator based in Lae, Papua New Guinea.

Role Overview:
This role leads the operations, planning and technical side of Main Ops, and provides relief cover across the other Operations Managers' units. Reporting to the Lae Transport Manager, you will be accountable for operational control of both drivers and fleet, measured on safety, quality, delivery, cost and innovation.

The scale is substantial: a dedicated pool of over 70 company-owned trucks — prime movers, sidelifters and rigids — and a department of over 100 staff including drivers, supervisors and crew.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage day-to-day transport operations across FCL, palletised and breakbulk deliveries, off wharf and ex-yard to client, including the pick-up of empty containers
• Manage and mentor direct reporting personnel
• Identify the best use of company equipment and driver resources to maximise service efficiency; scope and plan jobs and projects
• Ensure safety and compliance across the operation
• Liaise with customers daily, and regularly with other departments
• Audit driver and operator records — run sheets, fuel consumption, docketing, overtime
• Enforce company rules and policies consistently
• Ensure the contractual KPIs of the contracts you oversee are met and, where possible, exceeded

Essential Requirements

• Demonstrated industry experience in transport, logistics or supply chain operations
• Five years in a management role, with advanced interpersonal skills across both oral and written communication
• A strong commitment to health, safety and leadership
• Strong planning and organising skills

Highly Regarded

• Previous experience working overseas
• Having had more than 25 staff or drivers reporting to you
• Some HR or MC driving experience
• Experience in the freight and shipping industry, including shipping line container yards

• Based in Lae, Papua New Guinea, with some travel within PNG
