Cakum Global is recruiting a Logistics Manager for our client, a large-scale integrated agricultural and food production operation based outside of Lae, Papua New Guinea.
Role Overview:
The Logistics Manager is accountable for the safe, efficient, cost-effective and responsive movement of goods and people across the business. The role owns the company's transport assets, personnel, contractors, systems and policies, and converts approved transport requirements into achievable daily and weekly transport plans based on available fleet, drivers and third-party contractor capacity.
This is a hands-on operational leadership role reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, with a department of approximately 140 staff and 120+ weekly feed, fuel, finished goods and general cargo movements. It is not a desk-based position.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport planning and operations – match fleet and driver capacity to operational demand, execute the weekly movement schedule and escalate constraints early with recovery plans
- Journey and unloading management – Journey Management Plans, routing, driver and vehicle allocation, ETD/ETA performance and the unloading team
- Fleet and asset management – fleet status and asset records, availability, utilisation, inspections, breakdowns and VOR assets, coordinating preventive maintenance with the Workshop
- GPS, fuel and cost control – monitor vehicle movements, speeding, fuel consumption, excessive idling and transport costs; investigate misuse and inefficiency
- Employee and driver management – recruit, roster, appraise, train, discipline and motivate drivers and transport staff; maintain licence and competency compliance
- Safety and compliance – pre/post-trip inspections, journey and fatigue management, load security, traffic regulations, incident investigation and corrective actions
- Contractor management – plan and control third-party transport where internal capacity is insufficient; monitor service, safety, turnaround and cost performance
- Reporting and performance – daily and weekly KPI reporting on movements, fleet availability, drivers, contractors, fuel, breakdowns, safety and costs
- Continuous improvement and procurement – improve utilisation and operating efficiency, review fleet capacity and specifications, and support fleet replacement and strategic logistics planning
Ideal Candidate
- At least 10 years' experience in a management role, preferably in transport and logistics
- Demonstrated hands-on management of a large fleet with a significant number of direct reports
- Tertiary or trade certification
- Ability to write training manuals and conduct workshops
- Good command of English and a willingness to learn the local language
- Hands-on, self-motivated and energetic; an excellent communicator and leader
- Strong organisation, time management and attention to detail
- Commercial acumen and computer literacy
