About the Role

Cakum Global's client, a growing Papua New Guinea-based aviation operator, is seeking an experienced Technical Services Engineer – Airframe & Structures to join its Airline Technical team in Port Moresby.

This position provides specialist mechanical and structural engineering support for the operator's aircraft and equipment. The role is responsible for airframe structural technical matters, regulatory compliance, airworthiness assessments, defect investigation, modification evaluation and the provision of technical support to Continuing Airworthiness, Maintenance Watch, Flight Operations and approved maintenance providers.

The successful candidate will have substantial aircraft engineering experience, strong analytical and troubleshooting capability, and the ability to provide practical engineering advice in a safety-critical airline environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist technical support relating to aircraft airframes, mechanical systems and structural engineering.
• Ensure compliance with applicable requirements issued by CASA PNG, Transport Canada, the FAA, EASA and CASA Australia within the role's areas of responsibility.
• Review State of Design Airworthiness Directives and complete the required Maintenance Data Assessments.
• Evaluate service bulletins, service letters and other technical literature issued by aircraft and equipment manufacturers.
• Conduct technical assessments and recommend appropriate compliance or implementation actions.
• Provide troubleshooting and engineering support to the Continuing Airworthiness team and approved maintenance providers.
• Research and investigate aircraft maintenance defects, failures and adverse technical findings.
• Provide technical guidance regarding repairs, parts, overhauls, modifications, sampling programmes and preventative or condition-monitoring programmes.
• Identify, monitor and analyse recurring defects and adverse maintenance trends.
• Develop and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
• Provide Aircraft on Ground technical assistance and advice to Maintenance Watch when required.
• Liaise with aircraft manufacturers, equipment vendors, engineering organisations and approved maintenance providers regarding structural and airframe technical matters.
• Conduct technical and economic evaluations of proposed aircraft modifications.
• Develop modification proposals where necessary and prepare appropriate submissions for approval and embodiment.
• Ensure all approved modification actions are properly implemented and followed through to completion.
• Evaluate technical specifications for new equipment, products and processes and recommend their suitability for approved use.
• Assist with the development and final acceptance of technical specifications for aircraft being introduced into service.
• Review airworthiness requirements and technical specifications and recommend appropriate methods of compliance.
• Ensure company-initiated changes to manufacturer specifications and technical manuals are properly assessed and technically justified.
• Advise Flight Operations of changes arising from aircraft modifications that may affect aircraft operation.
• Provide technical assistance to Flight Operations on operational matters relating to airframe and structural engineering.
• Support Continuing Airworthiness and MRO teams with the implementation and ongoing use of relevant technical information systems.
• Maintain effective liaison with Production, Quality Assurance, Technical Materials, Maintenance Planning and other technical departments.
• Provide engineering research and advisory support to other departments as required.
• Provide backup support to Reliability and other Technical Services Engineers when directed.
• Apply the organisation's safety-management principles and corporate safety requirements across all activities.
• Undertake other technical duties assigned by the Manager, Technical Services.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have:

• Extensive aircraft engineering experience, preferably gained in a senior aviation engineering or technical services role.
• Demonstrated experience in aircraft airframe, structural or mechanical engineering.
• Relevant formal aircraft engineering qualifications.
• Experience assessing Airworthiness Directives, manufacturer service literature and maintenance data.
• Experience investigating aircraft defects, failures, repairs and recurring technical trends.
• Previous involvement in aircraft modifications, technical evaluations or aircraft acquisition and introduction into service.
• General airline experience and a sound understanding of commercial or private aircraft operations.
• Experience working within a Continuing Airworthiness Management environment.
• Familiarity with airline maintenance systems, technical documentation and document-control processes.
• Tertiary qualifications in an engineering or related discipline are desirable but not essential.
