About the Job

We are seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join our Technology Integration and Development team, delivering security engineering across classified and mission-critical ICT platforms.

This role is central to the design, deployment, and sustainment of secure systems within Defence and other high-security environments. You will remain hands-on across system builds, security hardening, vulnerability management, automation, patching, and disaster recovery, while providing senior technical guidance to engineers and stakeholders.

Based in Sydney, you will act as a trusted senior engineer, contributing to secure design decisions and ensuring platforms meet Defence security and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Proven experience in security engineering or systems engineering roles within Defence or classified environments.
• Strong understanding of secure system architecture, hardening, and operational security.
• Experience working in classified, regulated, or mission-critical ICT environments.
• Solid background in Windows and/or Linux systems administration.
• Hands-on experience with vulnerability management, patching, backup, and recovery.
• Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar).
• Ability to provide senior technical advice and mentor junior engineers.

Essential Experience

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Engineering, or a related discipline or equivalent Defence experience.
• Demonstrated experience working in secure or classified ICT environments.
• Australian citizen with a current or inactive AGSVA clearance (Min NV2 preferred).

Highly Desirable Certifications

• Security+, SSCP, or equivalent foundational security certification.
• CISSP or CISM (or working towards).
• Microsoft, Red Hat, or Linux system administration certifications.
• ITIL Foundation or higher.
• Defence / Government Specific (Desirable).
• Familiarity with ASD ISM, PSPF, and Defence security accreditation processes.
• Experience supporting systems through IRAP / A&A activities.
• Defence ICT training or recognised Defence qualifications.

Security Tooling & Platforms (Desirable)

• Hands-on experience with Tenable (Nessus / Tenable.sc / Tenable.io) for vulnerability scanning and remediation.
• Experience analysing vulnerability findings, risk ratings, and remediation plans in classified environments.
• Automation or scripting certifications (PowerShell, Ansible, etc.).
• Cloud security exposure (Azure, AWS, or equivalent).
• Splunk.
• Wazuh.
