About the job Engineering Manager
About BukuWarung
BukuWarung is building the digital and financial infrastructure for millions of underserved merchants.
We operate at the intersection of payments, credit, software, and commerce. As we scale toward serving 1M+ merchants, our engineering organization must evolve from fast-moving startup to disciplined, high-scale platform company, without losing speed.
We are looking for an Engineering Manager who still thinks like a builder.
The Mission
Own a squad end-to-end. Drive execution without sacrificing architecture. Raise the bar on both velocity and engineering depth.
This is not a coordination role. This is a leadership role with hands-on technical credibility.
What You Will Do
Lead a cross-functional squad (engineering + product alignment)
Translate business outcomes into strong technical execution plans
Drive realistic commitments and intelligent pushback when needed
Ensure system design rigor before implementation
Mentor engineers and grow future senior talent
Improve sprint predictability and flow efficiency
Partner closely with architecture and platform teams to ensure scalable solutions
Foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and high standards
You will be accountable not just for delivery, but for how delivery happens.
What We’re Looking For
12+ years of experience in software engineering, with prior experience as an EM or Tech Lead managing teams
Strong backend system design experience (distributed systems, APIs, data modeling, reliability patterns)
Ability to review and challenge architectural decisions
Experience delivering production-grade systems at scale
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Ability to balance speed with long-term maintainability
You should be equally comfortable:
Reviewing a pull request
Debating architecture trade-offs
Coaching a mid-level engineer
Pushing back on unrealistic timelines
Translating product ambition into engineering reality
Bonus Points
Experience in fintech or high-transaction environments
Experience scaling teams during high-growth phases
Exposure to AI-augmented development workflows
What Makes This Role Different
In many organizations, Engineering Managers drift away from engineering. Here, we expect you to remain technically sharp.
We value leaders who:
Understand system design deeply
Can spot scaling risks early
Care about developer experience
Raise standards quietly and consistently
This role is for someone who wants to build both systems and people.
If you have hunger, care about craftsmanship, and want to build infrastructure that impacts millions, this role is for you.
