Brighton Solutions is conducting a search for a Fire Protection Engineer. This role is very technical and complex in nature and suits an individual that brings a senior level of experience in code review and evaluation in this space.
The position of Fire Protection Engineer includes responsibility to perform a variety of professional duties of a technical and often complex nature, relating to code and standard development and related member and client services. Key to this position is the oversight as staff liaison of the multiyear updating of Performance Code through the Standard development process. The reach of these codes are both national and international.
The position provides internal professional and technical support to staff members, both within and outside the Codes & Standards Development group, and has frequent calls, written responses and direct personal contact with key stakeholders across the industry. The position reports to the Chief Fire Protection Engineer. Location flexible, subject to qualifications.
Fire Protection Engineer Responsibilities:
- Staff Liaison responsible for working with the applicable Committees and Work Groups in the development of the next edition and successor editions of the Performance Code.
- All administrative aspects of Standard development including meeting notices, agendas, minutes, etc.
- Technical support and development of drafts for Work Group and Committee review and action.
- Working with publications staff to ensure the accuracy of published editions.
- Code and Standard Staff Liaison
- Committees and other committees, as assigned
- The review and development of code/standard language that is concise, accurate, and consistent with other code/standard provisions
- Working with publications staff to ensure the accuracy of published code/standard documents
- In addition to acting as a staff liaison to code and standards committees, technical staff:
- Assist members with code/standard interpretations and related questions
- Representing at meetings and conferences
- Serving on internal and external committees
- Assist in educational content development, and conducting seminars as an instructor
- Serving as a technical resource for other company departments and functions
- Perform other technical and administrative duties as assigned
Fire Protection Engineer Requirements:
- Baccalaureate in an Engineering discipline related to Fire Protection Engineering
- Current professional licensure/registration in Fire Protection Engineering
- Minimum 5 years experience in Fire Protection Engineering
- Ability to demonstrate sound working knowledge of code and standard development, application, and enforcement
- Demonstrated experience managing and facilitating committee and/or consortiums of diverse personalities, interests, and skills for technically related task solutions.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and customer service skills
- Travel required approximately 10% - local, non-local and possibly international
