About the job Mortgage Loan Originator

General Responsibilities: Originate in-house and secondary market loans in full compliance with the bank's loan policy and all applicable state and federal regulations and laws governing 1-4 family residential mortgage loans.

Essential Duties

  1. Provide customer contact for residential real estate inquiries and meet with applicants/borrowers to provide mortgage loan advice and match best loan product to customer situation.
  2. Complete application, input application information into web application, print application, and collect income verification documents while maintaining customer confidentiality.
  3. Comply with and provide all disclosures applicable to residential mortgage lending rules, regulations, and guidelines to the applicant/borrower within the timeframes required by regulation or law.
  4. Collect and retain required documentation and information necessary for processing and approval of the mortgage loan request.
  5. Maintain appropriate communication with applicant/borrower throughout the loan application process to assure timely loan approval and closing.
  6. Close loans with customers.
  7. Comply with the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act and all related residential real estate mortgage regulations.
  8. Maintain positive relationships with secondary market lender and internal credit department in the processing of applications and loan documents.
  9. Establish and maintain relationships with realtors, colleagues, builders, and new home sales representatives in order to develop and retain existing business.
  10. Proactively recommend bank products and services such as retail products and services, insurance, and commercial, small business, and agriculture lending.

Other Duties

  1. Maintain thorough and up-to-date product knowledge including competitor offerings.
  2. Maintain a high level of knowledge in mortgage industry and maintain certification.
  3. Provide customer contact for consumer loans including auto and personal loans and collect customer information as needed in the absence of the Personal Banker.
  4. Participate in community events and organizations as directed.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Minimum 2 years of experience in mortgage lending.
  3. Retail/consumer banking experience preferred.
  4. Active NMLS license, or ability to obtain, required.
  5. Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft products required; banking software knowledge preferred. Fiserv Precision or Premier experience highly desirable.
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and organizational skills required.

Job Specifications:

  1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position sitting 90% of work day.
  2. Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  3. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, and printer.
  4. Constantly communicates with customers in person, via telephone, and by email. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  5. Constantly inspects documents for accuracy.
