Communications Specialist

 Job Description:

One comms role. The whole comms function. Your name on all of it.

In most organisations, communications is split across a team: a writer, a designer, an events person, a strategist and a lead.

This role is all of them.

Our client is part of a global, NYSE-listed group with a large footprint across Australia and New Zealand. They’re looking for a Communications Specialist in Melbourne to own communications for the Asia Pacific business, from shaping the plan to designing the banner and running the town hall.

What you’ll be doing

  • Finding the stories yourself. You’ll go out and talk to people, gather photos and video, and publish several LinkedIn stories a week.
  • Turning a short brief at 4pm into a clear, focused message by 10am: one message, not eight.
  • Building and restructuring the SharePoint intranet properly, beyond posting news.
  • Designing banners, posters and e-newsletters in Canva, Adobe and Mailchimp.
  • Running town halls from start to finish: venue, tech, vendors, leader slides and the day itself.
  • Delivering company events such as R U OK? Day and Safety Week.
  • Adapting global announcements for an APAC audience.
  • Looking at how comms works today and building the plan for what comes next: quick wins first, bigger changes after.

You’ll likely bring

  • Solid internal comms experience, ideally as a generalist or in a small team.
  • Hands-on skills in SharePoint, Canva, Adobe, Mailchimp and PowerPoint, plus responsible use of AI.
  • Town halls or large staff events you’ve run yourself.
  • Enough credibility to tell a senior leader “there’s a better way”, and the judgement to know when to just get it done.
  • Calm under pressure. When one email changes your whole day, you reprioritise and keep going.
  • A “less is more” approach to writing and slides.

This role IS for you if you love variety, want real ownership, and are as happy designing a poster as advising an executive.

It’s NOT for you if you’d rather advise than do, or there’s a part of comms you’d rather hand to someone else.

The details

  • Melbourne, 3 days a week in the office. That’s where the best stories come from.
  • Occasional early or late calls with the global team in the US.
  • Immediate start preferred.

Your ideas will land quickly, and you’ll be the person the business turns to for communications.
