Waste Depot Manager
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Swindon to assist with the appointment of an Waste Depot Manager, on a 12-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £21.49 - £28.05 per hour
Summary:
The Waste Depot Manager Facilities & Environment will oversee the daily operations, performance, and compliance of the councils waste depot facilities. This role is critical to ensuring waste management, recycling, and environmental services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with regulatory and council standards. The postholder will lead a team, manage depot resources, and maintain a strong focus on health & safety, operational excellence, and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the operations of the waste depot, ensuring effective planning, organisation, and performance.
- Oversee the receipt, handling, storage, and transfer of waste materials in compliance with environmental legislation.
- Ensure all health & safety policies and procedures are adhered to, fostering a strong safety culture across the depot.
- Manage staff performance, development, training, and rostering to ensure adequate coverage and productivity.
- Work closely with the wider Waste Services team to deliver high-quality waste and recycling services to residents and businesses.
Qualification:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Management, Waste Management, Facilities Management, or related discipline (desirable).
- Professional certification in Waste Management or IOSH/NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification (required or willingness to achieve).
Essential Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Proven experience managing a waste facility, recycling centre, or similar operational depot.
- Strong knowledge of waste management legislation, health & safety, and environmental compliance.
- Experience managing teams, with excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Budget management and resource planning experience.
- Ability to analyse operational performance and implement improvements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including working with contractors and regulatory bodies.
- Practical problem-solving abilities and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and high standards of service delivery.
