Arrears Collection & Arrears Recovery Officer

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Hillingdon to assist with the appointment of an Arrears Collection & Arrears Recovery Officer, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £24.00 - £31.67 per hour

Hours Per Week :18.00

Summary:

The Arrears Collection & Arrears Recovery Officer plays a key role in managing the Councils most significant financial risks to ensure the success of tenancies. The postholder is responsible for maximising rental income through effective case management, early intervention, and supportive engagement with tenants. They will adopt a Rent First approach, ensuring compliance with tenancy agreements while working collaboratively with tenants, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Jobcentre Plus (JCP), and other stakeholders to prevent arrears escalation and homelessness.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage rent arrears cases, taking early action and delivering supportive recovery processes.
  • Provide tailored advice on income maximisation, payment methods, and instalment options.
  • Monitor tenants transitioning to Universal Credit, supporting regular rent payments and successful claim management.
  • Develop robust exit strategies for alternative payment arrangements.
  • Identify at-risk tenancies and signpost tenants to specialist services, including money advice and financial inclusion.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate qualification (NVQ, Diploma, relevant degree) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Substantial experience in rent arrears recovery within a social housing context.
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy management, welfare benefits, and Universal Credit processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk, assess vulnerability, and deliver tenancy sustainment interventions.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to engage with harder-to-reach tenants.
  • Competence in ICT systems (Word, Excel, and case management software).
